S: I Am My Sister's Keeper
BC: From: Anna Fitgerald | ___________
FC: Anna | My Sister's Keeper
1: I believe I was born to be "My Sister's Keeper"
3: Kate, you’re my only sister. You were diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia at the age of two and therefore, I was born. But why is it that I believe that the only reason why I was born into this world was to save you? I was genetically made to be a perfect donor match for you. I don’t feel important in this world. I began donating to you from the second I was born. The blood from my umbilical cord was saved and given to you. Mom is always ignoring me and Jesse because she only cares about you and keeping you alive. Mom wants me to donate a kidney to you, but what if I don’t want to? If I donate my kidney, I won’t grow up as healthy as every other girl. I won’t be able to do hockey, the only thing that keeps my mind off of things that are bothering me. Kate, you’re like my Siamese twin. I love you and I’d do anything for you but sometimes I have to do what’s best for me.
4: Mom | Mom, I know you mean well for all your children. You need to keep Kate alive because losing a child is a painful loss, but how about forcing a child to do things beyond what her body can handle? I’m sorry I decided to sue you for the rights to my own body but a kidney is too much. I hated donating blood to Kate when I was little. I hated being dragged and forced into the hospital room to be greeted by a needle that would take my blood for her. You say you love all of us equally and that you’re just doing what’s best for us, but is that really true?
7: I know how you feel. I know how it feels to be ignored and having to do things that would make mom finally notice you, even if she may be yelling because the only way for you to gain attention from her is cause trouble by being destructive. Jesse I know you feel guilty for not being able to save Kate, but it’s not your fault you’re not a Kate’s match. Jesse, you are the only one in Kate’s whole life to treat her like a normal girl, and Kate thanked you for it. Please keep your head high.
8: Dad | Dad, thank you for being the parent who gives me the attention I need as a child. I heard that you named me after the galaxy, Andromeda. Is that why you showed me the stars every night at the fire station? Dad, I understand why you went against me when you were on the stand speaking. You have two daughters tugging at different ends of the rope. One has cancer and wants to live, and one doesn’t want to be a donor anymore leaving the other to die. You have a lot of patience for a family like ours. Thank you for always supporting me.
9: A heart full of love
