Habitat! :) | Ocean Sunfish are usually found in oceanic waters, but occasionally come inshore.
 = Sunfish locations
Physical adaptations | To move itself forward it moves it's fins from side to side because it's fins are on top and bottom not on each side like a usual fish..The teeth in each jaw are fused to form a plate, and the mouth is small in comparison to the body size. Sunfish are about 14 feet long and nearly 5,000 pounds but Sunfish in Monterey Bay are up to 1,000 pounds or more. The eggs are very tiny but grow to weigh more than a pick-up truck!
Behavioral adaptations | In order to steer, the ocean sunfish will squirt a strong jet of water out of its mouth or gills. When, where, and how they mate is a mystery.
Niche | Living: The sunfish Ocean sunfish eat crustaceans, starfish, jellyfish, sponges, mollusks, algae, plankton, squid, and small fish. Nonliving: It uses the sun to "sunbathe". It sunbathes because it likes to warm up before going back down into cold water .
Environmental needs | It needs to have small sea creatures and plants to feed off of to survive. It also need the sun light to sunbathe to stay warm in the cold ocean waters! | Population-Unknown :(
Relationships with others! | Ocean Sunfish around smaller creatures would usually eat them if the were like crustaceans and things like jellyfish and algae. Try to avoid it's enemies and anything bigger than it such as Whales and Sharks.
Long term species | The ocean sunfish is not related to freshwater sunfish. It is closely related to the pufferfish though. The Sharptail Sunfish, Slender Sunfish, and Southern Ocean Sunfish are the only other three fish in the sunfish family besides the Ocean sunfish. Theres is a lot of Sunfish because there only eaten in Japan.
