FC: The Story of Perseus

1: Alex Aralis, Kenan Gecim, Anne de Boer The Tale of Perseus

2: Once upon a time there was a King of Argos named Acrisius | Acrisius had only one child, a daughter named Danae. Saddened by not having a son the king went to visit Delphi to ask the god if he would have a son.

3: Danae

4: The god told the king that his daughter would have a son and that son would try to kill him. Upset by this the king shut her away from the world and guarded her so | that no man could get her pregnant. Zeus visited her one night and they conceived a child. Furious with her and Zeus he decided to get rid of them both.

5: He had a large wooden box made to hold them both and then dropped it into the ocean.

6: The box made its way to an island were it was found by a good fisherman named Dictys. | Dictys who had no children of his own brought the two home to his wife and they became like family.

7: The island they landed on was ruled by an evil king named | Polydectes who saw how beautiful Danae was and wished to marry her. Polydectes did not like her son Perseus so he decided to get rid of him.

8: Knowing of an island that housed the three evil Gorgons he talked Perseus into traveling there and killing them. Perseus who was now full grown wanting to prove himself, decided to go find the Gorgons. Unfortunately the Gorgons were almost impossible to kill and two out of the three were immortal.

9: Perseus sails all around to try to find the Gorgons and ends up having to visit the Gray Ladies.

10: Perseus with the help of Athena and Hermes was able to find the Gorgon's cave. Hermes gave Perseus a sword that could not be bent or broken to help him kill Medusa.

11: Athena gave Perseus a shield that was like a mirror so that he could look | into it and fight Medusa. That way Medusa's gaze would turn him into stone to not looking at her directly was very important.

12: Athena helped make sure that he didn't miss. Perseus was also given winged sandals and the cap of darkness to help him escape Medusa and the Gorgons easier.

13: Looking at the shield high about Medusa he aimed at her throat and Athena helped make sure that he didn't miss. He cut off Medusa's head, retrieved it and got away from the Gorgons

14: On his way home Perseus runs into a beautiful woman who is about to get eaten by a sea serpent.

15: Perseus killed the serpent just like he did Medusa and took Andromeda home to her parents to ask for her hand in marriage. After going home to his mother Perseus finds out that the king was mad over the refusal of marriage from Danae so he made them hide.

16: Perseus decided to take the head of Medusa to the king's hall and turned them all to stone. Perseus then decided to make Dictys king of the island.

17: Wanting to reconcile with his grandfather Perseus, Danae and Andromeda sailed for Argos. When they got there they found that Acrisius had been push out of Argos.

18: Perseus heard of King of Larissa holding an athletic contest so he went. There he threw a discus and that discus hit Acrisius in the head and killed him proving the oracle correct. Perseus and Andromeda lived happily ever after. Their son Electryon was the grandfather of Hercules.

19: Athena was given the head of the Gorgon Medusa. She now forever wears it on her aegis, the shield that she carries for Zeus.
