FC: Digital Anthology of Poetry Austin Day

Narrative Poem Handstand There isn't anything thats not important. Your toes must be, knees locked, Buttocks clenched to the edge of pain. Ribs arch, torso elongates to an elegance impossible elsewhere. Shoulders extended, you glare at your hands. So much for the easy part, and truly, it is easy; you need only get there and freeze the parts into place, then a corner of your brain will keep them cold while you turn inward, to the challenge. No one but another gymnast would guess that it lies in the pressure from ten whorled pads, in the hinge between hand and forearm. adjusting by microns, fingertip, wrist, you play as a child, gravity the most beautiful of toys. You could stay up forever, the world inverted but in such perfect balance that coming down is like a small deaththe line breaks, your feet touch the mat, your spine reclaims its ordinary curves; you are dull and mortal as before.

Limerick There was a boy with a mullet, People were tempted to pull-it, He would use shampoo, And say, "How do you do?" He loved his little mullet.

Metaphor Poem My mother is a dog. She protects me, From the people whom I don't know. She does stuff, That turns my frown, Upside down. She's sweet and gentle, Not too hard. She's real fun To do stuff with. She can cheer you up in an instant. My mother is a sweet dog.

Lyrical poem Played On My Greek Lyre Make mine- an inspired line Oh dear poetry Of emotions that a writer can't define Something personal from me Not a story to write But a lyre to play Like bards before have tried With a tune in to lay Let me dance with its instance In to somewhere it brings How I love Pegasus trance As from other world sings To my heart- to my feel Like waves of the deep Not explanation of a deal But the sounds onto keep A writer I'm not supposed to be But a poet I'm surely For mine- are from the poem- to see What moods of the lyricist- are purely?

Repetition Poem Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall; All the King's horses and all the King's men Couldn't put Humpty together again.

Descriptive Image Pome A Tall Lonely Oak Tree Winds Howl Leaves Shake Acorns clatter D O W N To The Dry Ground

Poem With Onomatopoeia Running Water water plops into pond splish- splash downhill warbling magpies in tree trilling, melodic thrill whoosh, passing breeze flags flutter and flap frog croaks, bird whistles babbling bubbles from tap

Three stanza Poem- Rhyme, Repetition Her silver back ripples Ears laid back, Cricket waits Beside the ramp on which I stand Cane in hand Ears laid back, Cricket waits I nervously eye the height of her back Cane in hand Heather and Sue by my side I nervously eye the height of her back A voice soothes, "Relax!" Heather and Sue by my side Strong Hands lift me to the saddle A voice soothes, "Relax!" Beside the ramp on which I stand Strong hands lift me to the saddle Her silver back ripples

Simile Poem Beyond The Sunset A handful of sand She held in her small hand, Cupping it tightly Yet with fingers opened All sifted through; Swirled by a gust of wind She cried uncontrollably Grasping sand within her hand Sparkling dust she called it Vanished. Returning to the beach beneath her feet To walk upon golden sunsets

Flint An emerald is as green as grass, A ruby red as blood; A sapphire shines as as heaven; A flint lies in the mud. A diamond is a brilliant stone, To catch the worlds desire; An opal holds a fiery spark; But a flint holds fire.

Change Do you worry about change? I'm not talking about money, Seasons, your life, that change! Did you know Change happens all the time? Seasons change: Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter Things change in your life as you get older and older. What change occured in your lifetime?

Haiku Poem Spring is almost here. Just getting out of winter. The sun is shining.

Ode to Christmas The birth of Christ, Ode to Christmas the holiday we all love, Ode to Christmas, the presents we receive, the nice things we give Ode to Christmas, The joyful smiles we show, Ode to Christmas, The huge smiles we receive.
