Pakistan is my home country hence I have great love for it in my heart and I want to see Pakistan move towards betterment. In my personal opinion poverty and corruption are the main culprits in pulling Pakistan backwards. Poverty in Pakistan is predominantly a rural problem. Rural population constitutes up to two thirds of Pakistan’s population hence almost 75 percent of the country’s population lives below poverty level.
Women Work hard but are never given the equal representation hence most women earn less than most men. http://www.tonic.com/post/how-to-help-pakistan-flood-victims/
A major cause of rural poverty in Pakistan is the highly unequal distribution of assets particularly land and access to water. As a result, the direct gains in income from crop production are availed by a mere fraction of the population. Other causes of rural poverty include the price of food, lack of education, limited access to health services, large family size, gender discrimination, environmental degradation and deterioration of the natural resource base.

Pakistan ranks 145th out of 187 countries on the United Nations Development Program’s 2011 Human Development Index .Agriculture is at the heart of the rural economy and accounts for roughly 22 per cent of Pakistan’s total economy. Most of the land in Pakistan is arid, semi-arid or rugged and not easily cultivated. Water resources are scarce throughout most of the country, and finding water for irrigation is a critical challenge for the agriculture sector particularly in remote areas.
Recession in the U.S and the European Union has pushed countries into higher levels of poverty and there seems to be no solution to this problem. According to the latest World Bank Reports Pakistan is ranked at number 43 in the list of countries most exposed to poverty. Apart from the financial dimensions of poverty there are various other facts which make a person poor. For instance in Pakistan there is scarcity of opportunity. Women in Pakistan have lesser opportunities to work in the labor market than men therefore women suffer from poverty more than men in the country do. Majority of the rural population is uneducated and hence window of opportunity is quite narrow for most people.
This little girl is eating food from the ground. There are various such cases around us and we ignore them.
Another important cause of poverty in Pakistan is lack of governance. When people do not have confidence in a country's government they are not willing to invest in such an economy. Reduced investment means lesser employment opportunities which directly results in poverty.
The politicians need to stop fighting over their position in the government and should concentrate on solving the issues surrounding the country amongst which poverty is one. There is a need for considerable effort to increase jobs and employment opportunities for the people. The government should focus on investing in developing infrastructure which would automatically create jobs in the country. With terrorism under such heat we should realize that to eradicate terrorism from Pakistan the Government has to take some constructive steps to decrease poverty. Poverty and corruption are the main root problem and the biggest hurdle in the development of Pakistan.
If I can help one child and wipe of their tears and make them smile once I will consider it my best achievement.
