Fates flow and change with the tide. "Man mould thyself" and see the bias.

 Nature has secured individualism

But distemper is the scourge of talent.

Strive for disengaged objectivity... with charity...

 and perfection.

To be great, one must have a style and determination, and be a master of his own specialty.

Life is very narrow. Look beyond the shallows.

By systematic discipline all men may be made heroes.

Culture must never exclude art, books, or the individual

Learn Latin, fishing, riding, and gymnastics: each will serve.

Good criticism is very rare, and always precious.

Travel is overrated: people that run to other countries because they do not fill a place at home 'cannot abroad.'

"Let him go where he will, he can only find so much beauty or worth as he carries."

But..."of the six or seven teachers whom each man wants often happens that one or two of them live on the other side of the world.

The best lesson is quiet manners, and the "mark of the man of the world is absence of pretension."

One must also remember the high possibilities of a million men.

"To the man at work, the frost is but a color: the rain, the wind, he forgot them when he came in. "

"Let us learn to live coarsely, dress plainly, and lie hard."

Periods of solitude that the saint and the poet seek cultivate character development and creativity.

With attentive objectivity, one can perceive the beauty in all people

It can also perceive ugliness in friends

"Try the rough water as well as the smooth.. Rough water can teach lessons worth knowing."

"Steep and craggy is the path of the Gods."

With all of these conducts in place, "it is still conceded that all success is hazardous and rare. "

but as long as we are alive, I share the belief with Emerson that We should really LIVE!
