FC: A Review Guide for the Reformation

1: Many of Christian faiths get their start in the Reformation | This guy is important. Martin Luther

2: John Wycliffe | The Early Rebel Raiser | John Wycliffe Translated the bible into the common language, and thought the church should be poor and not have possessions. | Lived in England, and influenced Martin Luther

3: Taught that path to heaven was by reading the Bible. | Martin Luther | Martin Luther started the Reformation. | Was suppose to be a lawyer, but a bolt of lighting changed his mind

4: Martin Luther posted his 95 Theses in a protest against the his views of the corruption of the church. The biggest problem was with the selling of indulgences. Indulgence : the forgiven of punishment for a sin

5: The printing press helped spread the Reformation. It also created a information boom. | Most religious leaders had the bible translated to the common language, because people need to read it to be a good Christian. This caused a literacy boom. | Gutenberg's print press 1440. Not the real thing but similar.

6: The short term effects | Less religious tolerance, because everyone was fighting for their religion. | The Counter-Reformation by the Catholic Church. | New school of thoughts on Christianity. | Religious wars rage Europe for the next 131 years. | The Catholic Church lost power to the Monarchies.

7: More religious freedoms in the long run. | Lasting Effects on the World | The United States and elsewhere experience multiple forms of Protestantism. | Civil liberties are improved and become more common.

8: Questions to think about for the test. | How are the view points of Martin Luther and John Calvin different? | How does free will figure into their religious views? | Why was the English Reformation more about politics and less about religion? | What are the current disagreements about religion in the world that is cause problems?
