General Information | a) The name of my parish is Saint Joseph's Maronite Catholic Parish. b) St Joseph's is located in Croydon at number 7 Acton Street. c) Approximately 450 people belong to the parish. d) At Saint Joseph's, there are many Mass times to suit the busy schedules of the lay catholics in today's society. The masses are said in different languages, for the convenience of the parishoners. the Mass times are as follows: Sunday: - 8:00am (Arabic) - 9:30am (English) - 11:00am (Arabic and English) - 6:00pm (English) Saturday: - 6:00pn (Arabic) Weekdays: - 9:00am (Arabic) - 6:00pm (Arabic)

 e) In my opinion, the most popular mass is the 11:00am mass on Sunday mornings. I believe this because most Catholics attend mass on Sundays and this mass is spoken in two languages (English and Arabic). This way, all parishioners can comprehend the mass. f) St Joseph's parish was established in the 1970s. g) After Saint Joseph's was established in the 1970s, it was then refurbished in 1998. Since then, St Joseph's has been open to all Catholics and has hosted many great and significant events. Some of these events include when Joumana Mdawar (a famous singer from Lebanon who sings hymns) came to the parish and performed beautifully, or when the Relics of Lebanese Saints visited our Church. These events are very significant to the Parish and are acknowledged.

Saint Joseph's Feats Day is celebrated on the 19th of March and a real feast takes place. After a mass is said, All the parishoners migrate to the hall under the Church and eat a traditional food called 'Heresa'. It is a great experience. | I LOVE Saint Joseph's

People of the Parish | a) At saint Joseph's the Parish Priest is Msgr. Emmanuel# Sakr EV. Msgr. Msgr. Emmanuel became a priest at the age of 37, in the year of 1999 and migrated to Australia in 2004. After serving Mass for seven months at Our Lady of Lebanon in Harris Park, he settled in at Saint Joseph's where he has resided ever since. Recently in 2009, Fr Emmanuel was appointed as Monsignor. Now he has also been appointed Episcopal Vicar for Pastoral work. this means that when the Bishop leaves to go overseas, Fr Emmanuel replaces him and fulfills his pastoral duties. Msgr. Emmanuel is a great parish priest and can definitely manage his time, given that he serves the church in numerous ways.

 b) There are many members of the parish council at St Joesph's. one member is the Parish secretary. She or he is in charge of all the Parish paperwork and financial work. c) At St Joseph's, there are so many committees that you can't count them. # Here is a list of groups that people of all ages can participate in: - First Reconciliation - First Holy Communion - Caritas - Prayer Group - Faith and Light - Adult Faith Formation - Alter Server Group - Arabic School (Teachers) - Ladies Association - Liturgical and Pastoral - Marian Apostolic Movement (M.A.M) - Family

 a) Here is a list of groups and committees that people of all ages can participate in: - First Reconciliation - First Holy Communion - Prayer Group - Faith and Light - Adult Faith Formation - Alter Server Group - Fersen El - Adra (Translates: Knights of Mary) - Ladies Association - Liturgical and Pastoral - Marian Apostolic Movement - Maronite Flame - Family - Youth group | Ministries

 b) At St Joseph's there is such a large variety of ministries, there is a ministry which enables all age groups to participate in. For example: 13 year old: A person of this age could actively participate in numerous ways; one being through the choir. If a person has a lovely voice or can play an instrument well, what better way to serve the church then to join the choir. This way, the person is using the talent which God generously gave them to honour and praise God. 21 year old: One of the very many ways that a 21 year old person could serve the church, is by becoming aYouth group leader or Fersen Leader. If you are wondering how becoming a youth group leader benefits others; well, the leaders, who are ordinary people, give up their time throughout the week and use their talent of teaching and educating to inform younger people on how to live out Christian values and how to live more like Jesus, These leaders are very good role models.

40 year old: At St Joseph's a 40 year old parishioner could be involved in the Marian Apostolic Movement (M.A.M). The M.A.M is a ministry where parishioners over the age of 18, join together weekly where they pray the rosary and discuss strategies of how to take the World of Jesus to the public and display Christian values and techings. Through this ministry, the members of M.A.M train themselves to use their talent of preaching and confidence to inform the general pubic on the way of living out lives like Jesus' and how to lie out the Christian values.

Scripture Passage on Service | John 13: 1-20 - 'Jesus Washes the Disciple's Feet' | I believe that this scripture passage is very insightful to Catholics when it is referred to the idea of 'service'. This scripture passage proves to all Catholics that regardless of your position in society, you can 'serve' the Church, one way or another. Jesus is the Messiah for the Christians, He is the Saviour of all, yet, He humbly washed His Disciple's feet.

In this passage, Jesus quotes 'No servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him.' This being said, I believe that nobody is better than the person standing next to them, and that we are all equal in the eyes of God. Jesus, during His time, was of high authority and highly respected, but, He still washed His disciples feet and metaphorically 'cleansed' them. He says that we must mimic His actions and 'serve' each other, physically, emotionally and spiritually. We, (each other), ARE the Church, and through us serving each other, we are serving the CHURCH. In our modern world, we can often get carried away, but we must remember to stay humble and to acknowledge the fact that even the dirtiest jobs must be done. In today's society and at Saint Joseph's Parish, there are numerous ways to serve the church using our individual talents, which God has generously blessed us with.
