Slave Trade Project - Page Text Content

FC: Europeans introduced the salve trade on a massive scale. This forced migration moved millions of Africans thousands of miles away from home. | In the 1700's, around 60,000 Africans were sold or captured into slavery per year. | The Trans-Atlantic slave trade lasted for about 400 years. During that time, it could have caused the deaths of 2-3 million African Americans.

1: Slavery quickly developed racism. The Americans viewed the Africans as inferior humans. | They used racism to justify treating Africans as property.

2: -Sometimes, the salve trade encouraged wars in Africa and increased tensions among neighboring peoples. | -They traded slaves for guns, which was used to dominate trade and build strong states. -Economic life in small communities suffered as healthy men and women were captured.

3: Many small communities relocated as far from the salvers' route as possible. Their technological and economic developments were hindered because they devoted more time and energy into hiding and defending themselves.

4: The survivors of the African diaspora struggled to hold onto their culture. in 1847 when Liberia became independent, Europeans were expanding their beliefs all across Africa.
