FC: The Life of St Dominic By Sophie
1: St. Dominic was born in 1170 at Calaruega in Spain. He was the son of Felix Guzman and B.I Jona of Aza. He spent 10 or 12 years in study and in 1199 he was appointed canon at Osma. From there he became Prior Superior of the chapter. He died in 1221 Bologna, Italy. He was 51 when he died.
2: In 1203 he accompanied Bishop Diego de Avezedo of Osma to a place called Languedoc, this is where St. Dominic preached against the Albigensians. The Albigensians did not believe in God they believed that the soul was good and the body was evil.
3: St. Dominic was the founder of the Dominican Order of Preaching Friars. St. Dominic was rich and smart, he studied the liberal arts and theology. He lived a life under the rule of St. Augustine.
4: He stayed in southern France for a few years with a small group and tried to put his ideas into practice by preaching, studying, praying and living in poverty.
5: In 1215 Dominic was given for approvfal for the establishment of a religous order deticated to preaching and based on a deep knowladge of the scriptures and christian truth. In 1217 Dominic spread his beliefs around the world by scattering the group of 16 around Europe.
