"great terror" was the period in time when Stalin effectively liquidated all traces of opposition to his rule. Targeting all levels of society, including children. all accused of conspiring against Stalin & the government were sentenced to death.

THE GREAT TERROR | "the show trails" accusing Zinoviev, Kamenev of conspiring against Stalin , Stalin stood behind these trails and chose a list of "guilty men " he deceived the accused into thinking their confessions would earn then leniency in sentencing, they signed their death warrants

Causes and effects | in the late 1938 the terror burnt itself out, Stalin announced the end of the era of mass purge. But the campaign had caused lasting devastation, millions of Russians were either executed or shipped off to the Siberian gulags. The entire nation and its attendant culture sank into a deep seated paranoia, the effect in which is still being felt in Russia today.

LEADERS | "The Nazi-Soviet pact was a brilliant move for Stalin, in a sense. it gave him an opportunity to drastically improve his country's strategic position along it western border. While Hitler flattened Poland, Soviet troops took possession of the eastern half of the unlucky country. the USSR and Germany shortly agreed to share. By the time Hitlers armies raced across France winning battle after battle Germany stood the unquestionable master of continental Europe, left Hitler free to turn on Stalin without fear of attack from the west, as Nazis prepared the launch of "Operation Barbarossa" against Russia, Stalin prepared for invasion Stalin was fearful of war

FACTS | 1:Stalin acquired the titles "Father of Nations" "Brilliant Genius of Humanity" "Great Architect of Communism" & "Gardener of Human Happiness" 2:Soviet Union suffered the most casualties during WWll, 20 million 3:Stalins tenure as dictator was so harsh that when Nikita Khrushchev took over he stared a policy of "de-Stalinization" 4:Hitler insisted on humiliating Stalin which lead to him losing 25% of his army eventually causing him to lose the war. 5: The Soviet Union under his leadership became world power which briefly lead to technological lead in space exploration. 6:during his leadership farmers were denied private property and food was exported for foreign industries. 7:Stalin was very fearful of Hitler and gave him resources to move around war. 8:Stalins leadership was not long enough to save his country he made a lasting impact on Russia 9:Stalin had many meetings with Franklin Roosevelt 10:Joseph Stalins real name is Losif Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili
