1: Land and Climate | Suriname is located on the northeastern shoulder of south America. It is an area of 63,235 square miles.About 80% of this country is tropical rainforest's.The area is hard to get around because there aren't that many roads available to ride on.This is good because the country is home to many endangered species like the cock-of-the-rock bird, and the Caiman alligator. Since the country is by the equator, it has a very tropical climate. It is normally around 73-83 degrees all year round. It is also made up of two rainy seasons( December-January/May-mid August) and two dry seasons(February-April/mid August-November).Every year they have about 87 inches of rainfall.

2: History | Amerindians where the first inhabitants of Suriname. In the 16th century, the European explorers then came and brought warfare, slavery, and disease to the country. Then in the early 17th century they colonized the area. They later brought in slaves to work in their coffee and sugarcane mills. The slaves then tried to escape and many did. In 1863 slavery was abolished but some people still worked their slaves for the next 10 years. In 1975 Suriname was later granted full independence.

3: Religion | Suriname is made up of 48% of the country being catholic. Half of these people are Roman catholic and the other half Moravian protestant. 27% are Hindus, 20% Muslim, and about 5% follow Indigenous religions. Javanese Muslims are separated into two groups, East prayers and West prayers. East prayers face Mecca to pray and also follow the Koran, when the West prayers face the west like their ancestors did in Indonesia. West prayers also practice agama Djawa (Javanese religion) which leads them to make food sacrifices (sadjen). They also hold slametan, which is a ritual feast, during births, circumcisions, marriages, and funerals to produce harmony between spirits and the living.
