3: ACL All genre music festival | ACl is a huge music festival that stands for Austin City Limits. It is a yearly three day festival. More than 70,000 people attend each of its days. It is held in Austin, Texas at the famous Zilker Park. Over 130 acts are brought together each year.
4: Band of Heathens Rock band | This is a band from Austin, Texas who compose American Rock and Roll music. They first recorded an album at an old club called Momo's on West 6th Street. After that they were brought to attention and won the "Best New Band" award at the 2007 American Music Awards.On may, 20, 2008 they released their first studio album. From 2008-2011 their albums were on the top 10 most played American albums list.
5: Continental Club Soul music venue | The Continental Club is an awesome club in Austin, Texas on South Congress Street. It dates back to 1955. It was established by Morin Scott. The early blues style of music helped it develop in the 70's and the 80's.Now a soul club and new music genres becoming popular it was taken over by Steve Werthiemer.
6: Dallas Symphony Orchestra Classical venue | This American orchestra performs in downtown Dallas, Texas at the Meyerson Symphony Center. It started in1900 with forty musicians conducted by Hans Kreissig. This orchestra has been awarded many awards including Editors Choice in the Gramophone Awards of 2005, plus the CD of the week and record of the year in 2004 from the Sunday Times. As well, it was given the Classical Brit award, Critics Choice in 2005.
7: Emo's venue | Emos's is a nightclub in Austin, Texas. It started from a punk club in Houston in 1989, but Houston's location closed in 2001. Austins club opened in 1992. Although it closed in 2001 for a reason we do not know. Emo's East opened up after, on the old place of Emo's original, just on East Riverside.
8: The Solo Soul and Blues Festival Soul festival | The Solo Soul and Blues Festival takes place in Humble, Texas at the Humble Civic Center. The producer of the festival and Solo Zydeco Productions is Troy Barrett. His productions have been producing festivals since 1997. It includes a mixture of soul and blues music. Plus you can enjoy great food vendors, all-day music, and refreshments!
9: Greater Southwset Music festival festival | The Greater Southwest Music Festival is in Amarillo, Texas at the Amarillo Civic Center and college. It includes over 10,000 music students and teachers. The contests feature choir, show choir, orchestra, band, jazz band, ensemble, and solo. For almost four decades this festival has featured high school and middle school, teachers and students with the best talent in Texas. To hear the piano solos and ensembles you have to go to Amarillo college.
10: Hilary Duff Pop solo artist | Hilary Duff also known as Hilary Erhand Duff and Hil, was born on September 28th 1987 in Houston, Texas. Her parents are Susan and Bob Duff. Hilary has been in many movies during her career but her hit TV show in 2003, "Lizzie Maguire", brought her to her music career. She made a self entitled album and three other albums including her first, entitled "Metamorphosis". She is now married to Mike Comrie and has one child.
11: DeepIn the Heart Of Texas Country song | "Deep In the Heart Of Texas," is an American song about the advantages of Texas. Written in 1941, the music is by Don Swander and the lyrics are by June Hershey. It was recorded by Perry Como for Dacca Records in Los Angeles. The song was released as a single and spent five weeks on Top Of Your Hit Parade in 1942. The most common version, and the version we know, was sang by Gene Autry in Heart of the Rio Grande.
12: Jimmie Vaughn Blues artist | Jimmie Vaughn was born in Dallas, Texas and is the brother of Stevie Ray Vaughn. He grew up around both blues and rock and roll music and he did a lot of garage bands. When he moved to Austin at 19 he began playing at blues bars. He formed his own band in 1972 called, "The Storm", later changing it to, "The Thunder Birds", because of adding new band members. Over the years he had some rough time with his band, and the death of his brother; but he came back in 1994 with a solo album which brought him a national tour.
13: Kerville Festivals Folk music festival | The Kerville Festivals are at Quiet Valley Ranch just a few miles south of Kerville, Texas. Their two annual festivals are the Kerville Folk Festival and th Kerville Wine and Music Festival and are both family oriented. The folk festival was founded by Rod Kennedy in 1972. It is the longest running festival of its kind in North America. More than 1,500 singer-songwriters have performed and they offer a variety of traditional folk, bluegrass, acoustic rock, blues, country, jazz, and Americana.
14: Luxury Trio Jazz band | The Luxury Trio is a premium Houston, Texas Jazz band that started in 2006. They play at hotels, country clubs, weddings, and anniversaries all over Texas and Louisiana. The band plays beautiful small ensemble jazz without computers or machines. The trio represents 50 years of experience. It includes jazz guitar, upright bass, drums, but can be fitted to your event with trumpets, saxophones, trombones, and singers.
15: The Old Settler's Music Festival Rock festival | The Old Settler's Music Festival includes Americana and the best in roots music. It is in Austin, Texas at the Salt Lick Pavilion and Camp Ben McCullough, during the wild flower season. You can go for things such as great bands, performance workshops, kids activities, arts and crafts, a youth talent competition, and a music store. The performance workshops are taught by the bands and artists themselves! Some past performers have been Jean Osborne, Jimmy LaFave, and Charlie Daniels.
16: Nick Jonas Pop solo artist | Nick Jonas, full name- Nicholas Jerry Jonas was born in Dallas, Texas on September 16, 1992. He was discovered as a singer at age 6 while his mom was getting her hair done. Nick is a solo artist but also formed a band with his two brothers Kevin and Joe called, "The Jonas Brothers". He plays piano, drums, electric and acoustic guitar. A fun fact is that he was Gavroche in the Broadway musical, Les Miserables for nine months, until it closed in 2003.
17: Ohio (come back to Texas) Pop song | Ohio (come back to Texas) is a song by the band, Bowling For Soup. Its a single from the album, "A Hangover You Don't Deserve," released on November 17, 2005. It is about the singers girlfriend leaving him for another guy and moving to Ohio; he is trying to persuade her to com back to Texas. It was written by Jaret Reddick, Ted Brauner, and Zac Maloy. This song was actually a Wake up call for day 10 on Space Shuttle Discovery's final mission.
18: Pete's Dueling Piano Bar venue | Pete's Dueling Piano Bar is a super fun, sing-along, born and raised in Texas, music venue/bar! It has been around since 1992. They give you great performers and entertainers that they treat like family. New Talent and Seasoned Veterans are combined to give the show creativity and energy. Pete's has locations in Austin, Addison, Fort Worth, Houston, Las Vegas, and Florida.
19: Quebe Sisters Band Jazz band | Sophia, Grace, and Hulda make up the Quebe Sisters Band. They heard Texas Fiddling for the first time at a fiddle contest in 1988 and at 7,10,and 12 they started taking lessons from Joey McKenzie, who has an instrument shop and learning place in Mansfield, Texas. They all play the fiddle and sing in a three-part vintage harmony. Their guitarist is Joey McKenzie and bass is Drew Phelps. The Quebe Sisters Band perform a mix of western swing, bluegrass, jazz and swing, and Texas Style Fiddling.
20: Remeber the Alamo Folk song | "Remember the Alamo," was written by folk singer and sing writer Jane Bowers. It is about the last 180 days for the famous soldiers and figures at the Alamo, including Santa Anna, Travis, Crockett, and Bowie. A guy named Tex Ritter released the song in 1955. His recording was use in the movie "Down Liberty Road," later in the year. Many other bands and people recorded this song as well, such as The Kingston Trio, Johnny Cash, and Donavan.
21: Shady Grove venue | Shady Grove opened in Austin, Texas in 1992. It has the theme of old state parks in the 40's and is very homey. As well as a great restaurant it has an awesome series of music called "Unplugged At the Grove," which bring tons of fans in the spring and fall. Its patio, music, and food have been recipients in the "Best of Austin," polls. Shady Grove reflects the Austin lifestyle perfectly that everyone can enjoy.
22: Texas Our Texas Folk song | "Texas Our Texas," is the official state song of Texas. It was written by William J. Marsh and Glady's Yoakum Wright in 1924. In 1929 it was made the state song by the Texas Legislature. The Yellow Rose Of Texas and Dixie were two songs they were deciding between, but they wanted something new, so Texas Our Texas was created. Along its way the song had a few changes including when the word, largest, was changed to, biggest, in the lyrics.
23: Ugly Americans Rock band | Ugly Americans is an American Rock Band from Austin, Texas. The band was founded in 1993 by musicians that were playing together at the famous music venue, Antones. Bob Shneider was the vocals, Sean McCarthy was the bass, Dave Robinson was drums, and Max Evans and Bruce Hughes were both guitar. They also supported other bands on their tours, such as the Dave Matthews Band. They finally recorded there own live album in 1995 and a studio album in 1996, but in the next few years the band broke up; Bob Shneider went on to become a famous solo artist.
24: Voices Of Change New Music Ensemble Classical band | The Voices of Change New Music Ensemble was found in Dallas, Texas in 1974 by Jo Boatright and Ross Powell. They were nominated for a grammy as Best Performance By a Small Ensemble in 1999, and were finalists. Joe Illick is Piano, Virginia Dupuy is Soprano, Helen Blackburn is Flute,Paul Garner is Clarinet, Deborah Mashburn is Percussion,Maria Schleuning is Violin, and Jolyon Pegis is Cello. The ensemble has had more than 60 world premieres, made five CD's, and have played music by over 300 composers. They also want to perform new music, so they have an annual modern music competition for young or new composers.
25: Willie Nelson Country solo artist | Willie Hugh Nelson was born on April 30, 1933 in Abbott, Texas. Two of his nicknames are Red Headed Stranger or Shotgun Willie. At a very young age Willie's mother abandoned the family and his father died, so his sister Bobbie Lee and him grew up around their singing grandparents. Willie performed in lots of places when he was young and soon recording songs, but did not do very well in the 1960's. In 1973 he releases the album, "Red Headed Strangers," which became the top selling country music album in history.He went on to become very famous and was put into the Country Music Hall Of Fame in 1993.
26: Xes Whiskey Rock band | The Xes Whiskey Band is from Dallas, Texas. They are a high energy classic rock band. Xes Whiskey is tribute to the Van Halen Tribute Band and have been playing for 17 years! Paul Vhguy is the guitarist and lead singer, Ricky Lee is bass and some vocals, and Ken Poland is drums and background vocals. Their classic rock is also influenced by others such as AC/DC, Judas Priest, and Iron Maiden.
27: Yellow Rose Of Texas Folk song | The Yellow Rose of Texas is a traditional folk song written by J.K and published in 1858. It is about a servant who helped win the Battle of San Jacinto. The University Of Texas actually has an eaarly unwritten copy dating back to 1836. The song also became popular in Confederate army troops. In 1984 a song called, "The Yellow Rose," came out from country singers Johnny Lee and Jane Brody, it had the same melody as The Yellow Rose of Texas, just different lyrics.
28: Natalie Zoe Jazz solo artist | Natalie Zoe is an acoustic singer/ songwriter, rocker, jazz singer, and even blues and funk. Her hometown is Austin, Texas. She has sang backup for Don Henley and many other artists in her career. She has won many awards in Austin including best solo performer in 1977 and best tape in 1993. Natalie came out with an album called, "The High Road."
