BC: The moral The moral of the story is that money isn't everything.

FC: The Pearl by John Steinbeck

1: Project By Connor Batey Mrs. Crew 5th period Nov. 2, 2010

3: John Steinbeck was born in Salinas, California in 1902. He began to learn to write from Stanford university, but never graduated. He eventually tried his writing career in New York City, but left after two years with no luck. He eventually went back to California. After making a few books and short stories he became wildly known with the book, Tortilla Flat. In the early 1940's he became a filmmaker with the movie The Forgotten Village and a serious biology student with Sea of Cortez. He later died in 1968, having won a Nobel prize in 1962.

5: La Paz was poor town with mostly with farm land and brush houses such as the one that Kino and Juana lived in.

6: Kino Kino is a tall young man with long black hair and a mustache. He has a wife Juana and a son Coyotito. When his son Coyotito is stung by the a scorpion and denied help from the towns doctor, he searches for a great pearl to pay to help his son. Ironically when he finds the pearl, he gets greedy and paranoid and by this eventually caused him to kill a man and cause the death of his son.

7: Juana Juana is a tall, thin young woman with long black hair. She is the wife of kino and the mother of coyotito. She is very loyal and honest to her husband. when kino found the pearl, she was very worried that having it would destroy the family. Ironically, Kino became greedy and coyotito was eventually killed.

8: The Doctor The doctor is a rich, fat man, who is very greedy. When coyotito is stung by the scorpion, he refuses to help them because of the lack of money. When kino finds the pearl, he goes to them to help them out.

9: Coyotito Coyotito is an Indian baby, who is the son of kino and Juana. In the story, he is stung by the scorpion and denied help from the doctor. His father, kino, finds a pearl he says he is going to use it to cure him and pay for him a education. Ironically, his father becomes greedy and paranoid and eventually causes Coyotito to be killed.

10: Chapter II Kino went with his wife to collect oysters to hopefully find pearls. While gathering oysters, kino sees a pale light in an oyster, thinking it to be a pearl, and brings it into the boat. He eventually opens it and finds a big pearl in it. | Chapter I A baby, whos name was coyotito, was stung by a scorpion in the morning when his father, kino, woke up. He and his wife, Juana, rushed the baby to the doctor. When trying to get help from the doctor, the doctor refuses to help them and tells them that he is gone on a more important case. Kino, with shame and anger, hit the gate of the doctors home and then left.

11: Chapter IV KIno goes with his brother to La Paz to sell the pearl. When he tries to sell the pearl to the first buyer, he saids that the pearl is too big and is valueless. Kino gets mad and tries other buyers. They all tell him the same thing the other one told him. He gets mad and leaves. | Chapter III Kino is thinking about what he will do with the pearl. The first thing he wants to get coyotito to get cured. Soon after that he wants to marry Juana in a church. To make that happen he must sell it to one of the pearl buyers.

12: Chapter V Kino has gotten angry of what the buyers told him. He has decided to go to La Capital. The next morning, Juana tries to throw the pearl into the sea, but kino catches her and beats her. That night kino is attacked and kills a man.

13: Chapter VI Hiding in a secret place to hid himself from anymore attacker. He finds out that they being tracked. Eventually they go and hid in the mountains and hid in a cave. The trackers eventually come to the cave. kino tries to kill one of them, but one of them has already killed Coyotito. when they come home they throw the pearl back into the sea.
