1: These pictures represent Spaz, Bean, Little Face, and Ryter's time in Eden. They come to Eden in hope that Bean will get better. Even though normals aren't allowed in Eden, Lanaya brings them to make sure Bean lives. Where the normals live is called the Urb and is in shape of a circle with Eden in the middle protected by land-mines and charged air. "Eden was a paradise." " Yeah? And what's a paradise" " A place very much like this," he says. "A place where you feel happy just to be there and you never want to leave."

4: Grass | Sky | Forest | "But it isn't only the sky that fills my eyes. Because what Lanaya said is true: The earth is green. Instead of new concrete, they've got all this green feathery stuff, like a soft rug that's somehow alive." | "That's the sky, silly. The sky is blue." "The sky is gray," I say. "Everybody knows that." | It shows how different to the Urb is to Eden. Where the Urb has cracked concrete and smelly dirt, Eden has grass and living things. | I put the picture of the sky because even though that sky is what we see, Spaz and his friends have never seen sky. They rarely see the color blue. | "Over that way is a small forest of trees. Those velvety things are giant ferns. Aren't they lovely? I've always liked ferns." | You may have realized that there are no living organisms in the Urb besides humans and occasional small animals. While in Eden everything is perfect.

5: Blue Plate | "All I really care about is wanting Bean to wake up. I figure the blue alone can cure her, if only she could see it." | I put the blue plate because it starts the chapter explaining the story of the blue plate and what it means for Spaz. He believes that the color would be so powerful for Bean | " Just before I lost my family unit, Bean discovered the color blue. It was just this old cracked plate she found in a pile of rubble, but once she wiped off the brick dust, the color was still bright enough to shock your eyes. "Imagine if the whole world was this color," she said to me, holding the plate up to the gray light of day. "Everything blue, even me and you. Wouldn't it be wonderful? If something were blue, you'd have to love it, wouldn't you? No matter what?"

6: Apple | " An apple is this truly delicious edible that actually grows on trees, and it always tastes better if you pick it yourself. The only thing better is if your best friend picks it for you. Bean finds the best apple in our tree and hands it up to me. "You know what this tastes like when you first bite into it?" she asks. "No, what?" "Blue sky." "You're zoomed." " You ever eat blue sky?" "No." I admit. "Try it sometime," she says. "It's apple-flavored | I chose to include the apple because it is the last happy moment in Eden that Bean and Spaz had. Also they never had any fruit before in the Urb. | Sunlight | " Just then we come over the rise of the hill. The first thing I notice is the golden light of the sun, how it makes everything glow." | I put the sunlight because it is such a common thing here, but in his world everything is gray because of the smog and barely any light can come through.
