FC: The Life of Christopher Paul Curtis By: Chris Whitter
1: He was born in Flint Michigan, May 10, 1953. His parents were very strict loved to read and believed very strongly in equal rights.
2: He loved to read as a child but had trouble finding books. As a kid he got in trouble for playing with matches. His mom wanted to burn his finger with a match but his little sister would always blow it out. He wrote about The same thing happening to Byron in the Watsons Go to Birmingham-1963
3: after high | After high school he went to work at the assembly line hanging heavy doors on Buick's. He hated it but good pay kept him there for 13 years.
4: He always received good encouragement for writing from his parents and his teachers. During his time on the assembly line him and the person next to him worked out a play that they would work twice as hard while the other took a break for 30 minutes. During his break he wrote.
5: He took a year off from work to write the Watson's go to Birmingham-1963. One of his later books Bud not Buddy was the first book to receive the Newbery award and the Coretta Scot king award.
6: He quit his job in 1985. he became a published author when he was forty.
7: He never thought he would become a children's author but he ended up loving it. He says the highest accolade is when a kid comes up to you and says "I really liked your book"
8: He does not try to come up with things to write he just waits for them to come up. when he does find something to write he goes to the library to do research.
9: He has always been influenced by his family, with grandfathers like Negro League baseball player Earl "lefty" lewis.
10: When he talks to young writers he encourages them to write every day, enjoy it, and ignore the rules. He also tells teachers to have fun when reading a book with a class.
11: He says the worst about being an author is getting the first letter back from the editor. But the best part is doing something you love to do.
12: He would rather write a story by hand instead of typing one. He has his children type his stories at night for him.
13: He has written many books and lives with his family in Windsor, Canada

16: There is Mama who was born in Alabama, who covers her mouth when she laughs. Dad who is from Michigan who is very strict.
17: There is Kenny the middle child who loves to read. Joan the youngest who does not not want Byron or Kenny to get hurt. Finally Byron the juvenile delinquent
18: When Momma and dad can not take Byron's behavior they decide to take a road rip to Alabama to leave Byron with their grandma.
