S: The pearl by John Steinbeck

BC: The moral of this is to be happy with what you have. Also don't let greed go to your head. Always be kind to someone because you never know when you might need help.

FC: The Pearl by John Steinbeck

1: Project by Ariel Graham Mrs. Crew 5th period

3: Born in Salinas, California, in 1902. In 1919 he went to Stanford University, where he intermittently enrolled in literature. During the next five years he supported himself as a laborer and journalist in New York City and then a caretaker for a Lake Tahoe estate. He died in 1968, having won a Nobel Prize in 1962.

4: La Paz in this century where Kino lived was not a fancy place so Kino lived where the less fortunate lived , but he had his family so he was happy.

5: The doctor on the other hand well he was a rich man he lied in his bed until someone came for a medical treatment or something. The doctor he did not like indians because of things that happened in the past so you could say he was racist.

6: Father of Coyotito and husband of Juana. Kino in this novel is the husband that protects his family .and he also is the one who finds the pearl to save his son. Kino is also the one who saved his family from the trackers. kino is the protective type father but he also bets on Juana in one chapter. Kino is the man. | Kino

7: Mother of Coyotito and wife of Kino. Juana is the wife who gets up and makes breakfast and takes care of the baby before her husband gets up. Juana is also very protective when it comes to Coyotito because he is her first born. Many of the things Juana does in this novel is because of her son. | Juana

8: This is the son of Juana and Kino. Coyotito is the one who got stung in the shoulder by the scorpion at the beginning of the story. Coyotito dies at the end when the tracker heard a noise coming from the cave and when he shot thinking it was a coyote is shot the baby in the head. | Coyotito

9: The doctor is the wealthy man in the story and he treats the indians as animals because they were slaves to the spaniards and thats the way the doctor looks at kino and his family. | The doctor

10: A scorpion is on the rope of Coyotitos hammock, and he is playing with the rope then he knocks the scorpion off the rope, and it lands on his shoulder. The scorpion then stings the baby and Coyotito begins to yell. Juana and Kino bring Coyotito the doctor, and when they get to the doctor he calls them animals , and he refused to help them. The doctor is sitting in his bed eating chocolate. Then Kino and Juana walk back home to get the canoe and they went to look for a pearl to pay the doctor to cure Coyotito. | Chapter One Summary

11: Chapter Two Summary | Kino and Juana are at the beach in search for a pearl. It tells the story of how the canoe was passed down to Kino. It also tells how Juana made a poultice to put on Coyotitos shoulder to bring down the swelling. Then when Kino finds the pearl he and Juana are very excited and begin to discuss the pearl.

12: Chapter Three Summary | This is where the town starts talking about Kino and the pearl. It tells how Kino is going to use the pearl, and how he is going to use the money after he sells the pearl. It ends with someone trying to steal the pearl from Kino.

13: Chapter Four Summary | In this section it tells that Kino is going to the pearl buyers to sell his pearl, and how he is going to use the money. When Kino gets to the buyers they tell him that its priceless and that they can't help him. Kino goes and says that he will go to the capitals to sell the pearl.

14: Chapter Five Summary | Juana takes the pearl and tries to dispose of it before Kino awakes because the pearl transfigured Kino into a monster. Kino awakes before Juana can throw it and he kicks and hits Juana and then these men come behind Kino and he ends up killing them. Kino and Juana plan to leave before someone gets there to see the people dead. Kinos brush house was on fire and so he and Juana stay at Juan Tomas's for the night and the next morning they leave.

15: Chapter Six Summary | This is the beginning of Kino and Juanas journey. They were being followed by trackers so Kino was doing everything he could to hide their tracks. Kino and Juana end up staying in a cave one night but the trackers had caught up with them so Kino decides he is going to kill them so he gets undressed and lied on the ground. Coyotito begins to cry and the tracker with the rifle goes to fire and when he does it shots the baby right in his head, Coyotito is gone. Then Kino and Juana go back to the village they go to the beach, and Kino throws the pearl back into the sea.
