FC: The Pearl By: John Steinbeck

1: Destiney Dear 2nd period Mrs.Crew

2: Setting: Time: Middle 1800's by the pacific ocean on a small port in California.

3: Kino and Juana lived in a old brush house by the pacific.

4: This is Juana. She has long dark hair and dark skin. She is the mother of Coyoitio and the wife of Kino.

5: This picture looks like Coyotito. the son of Kino and Juana.

6: This man is a late pearl diver that reminds me of Kino.

7: This reminds me of the doctor. A lazy old man who does nothing.

8: Chapter 1 Summary In chapter one you meet Kino and his family. Juana his girlfriend has a son named Coyotito. One morning while Coyotito was in his crib he was stung by a scorpion. Juana wanted the doctor. As the village goes to get help from the doctor they are denied because of their poverty and race.

9: Chapter 2 Summary In chapter two Kino and Juana go out to look for the pearl of the world. As Juana prays to the gods for help. When Kino is searching he spots something very lucent, but he thinks its just an illusion. After, opening smaller size oysters he sees the larger oyster on the floor of the boat and opens it and finds the pearl of the wold. He thinks this pearl will help him.=

10: Chapter 3 Summary In chapter three the news of Kino and Juana finding the pearl of the world spreads quickly. As the town stud inside the brush they listen to Kino who set by the fire. He mentions how one day Coyotito will go to school and learn, he and Juana would be married in a church. A ll the people looked at Kino cause they saw how the power of the pearl was starting to take over him. Then all of a sudden the priest walks in, everyone was shocked knowing the priest never come to the brush houses. Also to visit was the doctor who wanted to all of a sudden help the child.

11: Chapter 4 Summary In this chapter Kino decides that he wants to sell the pearl. Well, the pearl buyers hear about this and start to make up a plan. As Kino walks into the store he goes from pearl buyer, but they all tell him the same thing and will not offer no more than 1500. Kino knew that this was not right so he left and to make the decision to go to the capital. In telling his brother this news he tells him to never trust no one. Then, he tells him a story about what happen to people when they found pearls as amazing as Kinos.

12: Chapter 5 Summary In this chapter Juana notices the evil power the pearl has brought over Kino. One night while sleeping Kino awakes to Juana sneeking out of the brush house. As he gets up to follow her he notices some thing in her hand. To find her standing on some rocks by the ocean. When she gets ready to throw the pearl in Kino strikes he in the face and kicks her in the side. While, on the way back up to the house Kino is robbed pulling his knife to not only stab the but to take his life

13: Chapter 6 Summary While Juana and her young child have to run from tracers because of the evil the pearl has brought to Kino. While running in the mountains the tracers hear a cry thinking it is an animal and shoot at it. As Kinos young son dies in front of him he realizes how much the pearl has brought.

14: The theme of The Pearl would be. The best thing in life that you hope for usually turns out to be the most worst thing you could want. I think we all know Kino and Juana found that out.

15: John Steinbeck | John Steinbeck is the author of the pearl. John has wrote many grate and wonderful books. He was born in Salines, CA on Febuary 27 in 1902. He graduated from high school and attended Stanford Univirsty.
