2: John Steinbeck was born in Salinas, California,in 1902. john grew up in a fertile agricultural valley , not to far from the pacific coast. He went to Stanford University in 1919 , where he enrolled in literature.he left in 1925 without taking a degree. During the next five years he supported himself as a laborer and a journalist in New York. Through his life he wrote many books and short stories.Most of his life he was a successful author. John Steinbeck died in 1968, having won the Nobel Peace Prize.
4: The setting of the story was in La Paz Mexico. The doctor lived in the wealthy end and Kino lived on the poor end.
6: kino is a tall man, with long hair and a mustache. Juana is a medium height woman with long hair. Coyotito is a infant baby with short baby baby hair. The Doctor is a big fat man who is racist and mean.
8: Chapter 1 summary Kino and his family are waking up in the morning. Towards the beginning of the chapter, everything is peaceful and like an ordinary day for kino. All of that changes when kino spots a scorpion heading for his son. Kino started to act in a furtive sort of way. the scorpion wouldn't attack his son.When kino launched for the insect , it stung kino's son coyotito Kino threw the scorpion down and beat it to death, Kino and his wife acted frantically, calling for someone to get the doctor. By this time almost every one in the town was at his front door trying to see what happen. Kino and his wife head for the doctor.When they finally get there they knock on the doctor's gate. The doctor refuse's to work with them.
9: chapter 2 summary kino takes his wife and sick son to the ocean, to a boat that has been passed from generation to generation. As kino searches for a pearl, his wife is praying a melody while holding her son.Kino notice;s a oyster deep under water in a spot all by itself, kino gets the oyster and stares at it for a moment and his wife tells him to open it. Whe n he does, he see s a large shiny pearl inside the oyster. Kino is felled up with so much happiness and excitement that he yells out a howl, and all the other men come over to his boat to see what all the commotion was about.
10: chapter 3 summary The news of what kino found had spread across the little town of brush houses. Before, you know it a crowd of people surrounded and push their way into kino's home. They asked him what he would do with the money, and he said he would send his son to school. The crowd cleared a little as the priest came. the priest congratulated him on finding the pearl and reminded him of his tithing. After the priest left, two men came into kino's home and it was the doctor and his servant. The doctor came in and treated coyotito's wound and said he had to give him medicine because the symptoms would come back. So the doctor gave coyotito some suspicious white powder which made him worse when the doctor left. Soon the doctor came back and gave the baby some ammonia and the baby was okay. Then he asked when he would be able to pay him.
11: chapter 4 summary kino and his family wake up to take the pearl to the pearl buyer. When they get there, the pearl buyer basically said the pearl was worthless. Kino know he was being cheated, so the pearl buyer called some of his colleagues to look at the pearl, The three other pearl buyers said the same thing, Eventually kino said he was going to the capital. Kino was attacked by a blow to the head when he walked out of his house. his wife helped him in and cleaned him up. For a moment kino was thinking of getting rid of the pearl, but he changed his mind and said he was going to sail to the capital with his family early in the morning.
12: Chapter 5 summary kino wakes up from his unconsciousness, to see his wife leaving the house with the pearl. kino follows her to the store to see that she was about to throw the pearl into the ocean. he stops her just in time and hits he r in the face, then he kicks her. Kino is attacked again and the pearl is knocked out of his hand and him and the stranger fight and kino kills him. Juana gets up and goes over to him to help him and give the pearl. Kino said they need to leave but there was a hole in his boat so he said there were going to walk to capital. juana goes back to the house to get there son, when kino is going there way he see's that there house is on fire. Kino and his family go to his brother's house for help. late that night kino and his family left.
13: chapter 6 summary Kinod his family walked for miles without a town in sight. The wind was blowing so their tracks were covered. When they got to a hiding place, the trackers were near. Kino jumps down and fights the trackers and kills them. Kino gets in such a killing rampage, that when he see's eyes in the reflection of the water, he shoots it. Kino's son is dead. when kino and juana got back home, they threw the pearlback into
14: I believe the moral of the story is that some material can destroy a family, and that it 's not worth it.
