1: The Trans-Atlantic slave trade started in West Africa. Even though Europeans had brought many people back to their homes during the 1400s, it wasn't until the 1500s that they were forced into slavery. In Africa, however slaves were usually war prisoners or had sold themselves during famines. But, they were treated more like servants than property.
3: In the 1600s a trade-ship route linked Africa, Europe, and the Americas. The cargo being slaves. White men would trade guns and other manufactured goods just to receive slaves. Receiving the guns only made more violence. The slave traders would attack more villages, only to capture more innocent African people. Even though many resisted being captures, very few were successful at doing such. They made rebellions in attempt to overthrow their capturers. Many Slaves died from disease caused by filthy crowded conditions, which allowed such to spread all of the place. During the 400 years the Atlantic Slave Trade lasted, nearly 2 or 3 millions Africans died.
5: The effects on Africa itself were horrible, in my opinion. In some places, the slave trade had little or no effect whatsoever. Other areas, however, it disrupted whole societies. It had even encouraged wars! When the mean slave traders attacked smaller villages, it had a huge effect on the economy. There was not nearly enough people to farm and harvest, so others may have starved. Many small villages had probably dissolved this way. The survivors, or the ones who weren't taken, were struggling to thrive and hold onto their cultures.
