This is the logo for my work place. I have been working at the drycleaners for two years now. It is important to me because it is a symbol of my hard work and dedication to my own future, especially because I have to pay my own way through college, and working allows me to support myself. | This is the German flag inside of the shape of Germany. This is a very significant symbol for me. I was born and raised up until 5th grade in Germany. Because I grew up in the German culture for most of my life, my personal views on society and life in general differ from many other teenagers. I also believe it has made me more accepting of others and different cultures. Germany feels like my home and I often miss it, the house I have lived in the past 7 years still does not feel like it is my actual home. Mainly the German flag symbolizes home for me. | Photography is a big part of my life. I love it. I use photography to express myself. I especially like it because when I am behind my lens I am able to pick up on small details I normally do not notice. It makes me appreciate the little things. Photography also allows me to escape my daily life and hardships that I am facing, by allowing me to focus and clear my head.

This is my family. I have two sisters. I am the middle child. My family symbolizes my "American" home. They allow me to feel a sense of comfort and home even though ultimately Germany still feels like my true home. They are the reason I have been able to come as far as I have. I also have learned a lot of life lessons from my family, so they symbolize wisdom as well. | These top three images symbolize a new part of my life. I took senior art and found that I actually really enjoy making art. To me these pieces symbolize new beginnings. They also symbolize the good things that can come from change and trying new things. I am not always fond of trying new things so they symbolize my ability to overcome that and move forward. | This is my dog Bonnie. Technically she fits in with the symbol for family but she also symbolizes unconditional love and acceptance which is important to me.

I personally value kindness. I believe that if we can help others and make their days easier or better in some way we should do it, because we are unaware of their personal struggles and hardships. Everyone deserves to be treated nicely and respectfully. | Christianity is a large part of my life. My parents were missionaries and my dad was a pastor. I was raised to believe in Jesus Christ and I have tried to live in a way that abides to the rules of Christianity and that is pleasing to God. I believe that Christians are asked to reach out to others and be accepting of others. They should embrace others with loving arms no matter the circumstance. I really value these expectations and beliefs. | I believe that honesty is the best policy. Even though at times it seems like honesty will get you in trouble, in the end it is better to be honest. I think that honesty builds trust which is necessary in every relationship between people. | V A L U E S

Norms | Every year I go to summer camp, more specifically I go to Silver Birch Ranch. It seems odd to me that there are some children who have never experienced summer camp. You make so many life-long friends and get to do fun things like zip lining and white water rafting. Both of my sisters go to camp as well. It has become an annual event in my family. | My family goes to Fox River Baptist Church every Sunday | My family goes to Fox River Baptist Church every Sunday. Where my older sister and I are members of the worship team, and my dad is a Sunday school teacher. Even before we moved here we attended church every Sunday. | My family tries to get together and play board games or card games at least once every weekend, though it is not always possible, most of the time we get together on Sunday afternoons. | Every night we eat dinner as a family. Everyone is expected to be there and dinner is planned around everyone's schedules. We talk about work and school, and whatever is bothering us, so we can remain involved in each others lives even with our busy schedules.

I really enjoy cooking and baking. I especially like trying out new recipes and using vegetables that were grown in our garden. I tend to cook with my mom which makes the experience even better. The cutting boards represent my love of cooking which helps define who i am. | I have loved swings since I was little. I like the feeling of flying. When I was younger I would swing because it gave me a rush of adrenaline. Swinging is one of the few activities that never fails to cheer me up. The swing helps define me because it represents the adrenaline junkie in me. | Bicycling and unicycling are also among my favorite things to do. I am not good at any sports so this is how I stay active. The bike represents my clumsy and un-athletic nature, but it also represents my ambitious nature because I want to be able to take a road trip using only my bike someday.

I really like gardening. Being able to create growth and life is an unusual experience. My garden helps define me because it represents my curious nature. I like to explore and learn about how things work. | I am a tea drinker. I especially like green teas. The tea pot defines me because it is a symbolizes my generally calm nature. I tend to be calm and meditative, I do not usually act obnoxiously. | I do not know much about cars but I love looking at them. I particularly like older models and koenigseggs. The car represents my love for things I do not understand. I do not always like to know how things work because it keeps life more interesting.

My friends have influenced me in so many ways. They change the way I view the world by offering me many different perspectives. I value many of the same things as my friends and learn from their experiences as well as mine. They have shaped me into the person I am today. | Music has also made a large impact on my life. There are a lot of lessons that can be taught through music. It also offers a way to escape reality for a while which is something I like to do. | Tyler Knott Gregson is a poet/ photographer. I love his poetry because he is often able to find a way to express in words what I cannot. His writing has changed how I view myself and others. It has also allowed me to understand myself better and prompted me to do more inflection.
