FC: We're on our way! 2011

Belle wants to know - Just where do we think we are going?

Feb. 17-21 we took in the sights of New Orleans, starting with the Aquarium of the Americas. Laissez les bons temps rouler!

The brick is still there! | This guy got BIG!

It was fun to introduce Keith to the many sights of the French Quarter. We strolled around Jackson Square, peeked in St. Louis Cathedral, wandered Pirates Alley, dined at the Gumbo Shop, and even ventured down Rue Bourbon.

A certain Café, however, was quickly established as our favorite place to sit down, relax, and have a snack.

This artist had many fleurs-de-lis available for sale, but the one that caught my eye was still in progress. When we went to the Quarter the following day I snatched up the completed work. It now hangs in our appropriately- themed kitchen.

It ain't Mardi Gras... | 'til you've seen something... that you've never, ever seen before

Well we went on down to the Audubon Zoo | and they all axed for you...

At the top of Monkey Hill

The University United Methodist Joyful Noise Handbell Choir took their status up a notch by playing at the Missouri Conference ordination ceremony on June 4. We were especially happy to attend because our new pastor, Jill Sander-Chali, was one of the ordinates.

This summer Alex decided to walk the Appalachian Trail. He started April 1st in Georgia. The first week of June the family intercepted him near Roanoke, Virginia. Dad made it overnight, while Mom and Kendra hiked another full day. After those 15 miles we (or actually, our feet) decided a hotel sounded like a much better idea. We were very glad to see Dad making one last check of the rendezvous parking lot.

We're off! | Alex makes it look so easy

The views made everything worth it. Alex (trail name: Engineer) finished the last of the 2181 AT miles in Maine on October 5.

According to the Engineer, this is the most difficult section of trail in the southernmost 700 miles. Thanks, bro.

June 22-26 Keith went with the UUMC youth to Little Rock, AK on a mission trip. | We painted porches, cleaned gutters, installed railings, weatherized decks, and played cards.

It felt very nice to sit around the campfire on the very chilly mornings and evenings. | In celebration of Ben and Jonathan's birthdays we all headed off into the wild blue yonder of Kickapoo State Rec. Area, Illinois. | Sep. 30 Oct. 2 2011

Except for the last day when Kendra tore her ACL while playing catch with the foxtail, this was a great and relaxing trip. | We did some hiking, cooking, and playing with baby Owen.

Guess who has a bun in the oven!

We had a lot of fun revealing our impending parenthood to our friends through our costumes this Halloween.

Sasha and her very first sewing project - an adorable purse! Just remember to put the presser foot down. | Girls' Night! Dinner and milkshakes at Fitz's, then an evening at the Third Degree Glass Factory with wide-eyed Olivia and Destiny.

The day after Thanksgiving we went to Josh and Stephanie's for game day. We also celebrated our World of Warcraft guild's first birthday. It was exciting to meet a few guildies in person for the first time. Cheers, Before IT Was Cool!

This Christmas we celebrated with the Grimes family in Houston. We enjoyed the warmer (if wetter) weather, went to to the Moody Gardens Aquarium and Festival of Lights, ate some great seafood, watched the Saints beat the Panthers, and did the whole Christmas thing complete with cinnamon rolls.
