S: Bruce & Yolanda Jenks' Engagement Book ~ Februarry 14, 2009
BC: More and more I think about our wedding day with glorious light in the rotunda and the guest in their finest; all, in one accord, celebrating our love, our union. Your beautiful dress and my handsome tux, the flowers, the food, the wine, the music, the laughter, the tears all say, “Bruce loves Yolanda and Yolanda love Bruce." They are going to build a house of love and that’s a good thing and we bless it.
FC: Bruce & Yolanda Jenks | Our Engaement Book February 14, 2009
Dear Family & Friends, Thank you for being with us today as we celebrate our love. We could not be more thrilled that you are here and we would like to preserve this moment by having you pen a few words of encouragement and advice to us. In the pages following, you will find our engagement photographs, along with some stanzas from poems written by Bruce to Yolanda during our courtship. Please feel free to write us a message from your heart. We will treasure your wit and wisdom always. Sincerely, Bruce & Yolanda Jenks
You are the ice cream with my cake, the chocolate on my strawberries. You are the sweetness in my day. Like jelly goes with peanut butter and syrup goes with waffles. Like a wink goes with a laugh and a touch goes with a smile. You fill my life with sweetness. What a wonderful surprise you are. I treasure you.
My love surrounds and envelopes you. It goes before you and trails after you. My love watches over you. Before you awake in the morning, I am already loving you. During your day, I am making plans for our future. After you fall asleep at night, my thoughts are with you. When you hear a sweet song in your head, I am singing over you. When you laugh out loud at some simple thing, I am rejoicing with you. When you cry, I am holding your hand.
It began as a whisper, that warm breeze. Trees are beginning to sway; newspapers are caught up in the mischief. Neptune is stirring his seas. A dancer has entered the room, carried by a humid zephyr. A tempest is about to blow. The dancer is other-worldly. Exotically, distantly, mysteriously, she beckons. Sirens begin to wail. A chorus of the ancients begins to chant. Rocking back and forth, they coo Psyche is calling for Eros.
You are my princess. Wear the title proudly. With your nose just slightly heaven-ward, gesticulate your left hand meaningfully.
I want to give you my name. With my name comes my pledge to honor you, to protect you. To hold you in highest esteem, to care for you. To be faithful to you, to make you the center of my plans. To share my fortune with you, to be sympathetic. To listen well, to be continually stirring myself up to show you kindness, humor, and goodwill. And most of all to love you.
Every Day Every day you need to take your multivitamin. Every day you need to put on a coat if it's cold or sunscreen if it's hot. Every day you need to drink plenty of water, eat your fruits and stay away from junk food. Every day you need to do your back exercises and refrain from lifting heavy objects. Every day, count your blessings and be thankful. Every day, remember that I love and adore you. Every day remember that I’ll be doing the same for you.
Act Your Age When I was little, they said, “Act your age!” Don't stick out your tongue, don't make faces and don't whistle at the table. When I was a teenager, they said, “Act your age!” Comb your hair, dress right, do your chores, and don't hang out with the wrong crowd. When I was a man, they said, “Act your age!” Get a career, a wife, make babies, build a house, be a pillar of the community. Now that I have acted my age all these years, I say, “Nuts on ‘em!” I’m gonna sleep late, eat in bed and nuzzle before work. I’m gonna travel, I’m gonna see the world. I’m gonna love my woman with all my might, even in public.
I see him there through the forest, that buck I've heard tell of, his withers rippling with cords of hard muscle. I have no time for such foolishness. I must graze before the winter snows begin. He catches sight of me in the autumn sunlight and though I am well hidden in the brush, his magnificent head spins towards me. I shy, pulling further back into cover. With two quick leaps he is in the glade with me...
You'd look awful pretty on a blanket. You'd glow under a woodland tree. I want to peel you a grape, slice you a peach and feed you cheese and crackers. Let's go on a picnic.
Bruce is driving down Shoreline Blvd. in Mountain View on his way to work today. Bruce notices the beautiful blooms on the tree-lined streets, the bright blue sky with puffy white clouds. Bruce purrs to himself, it's great to be alive – Yolanda has made it so. Her smile, her touch, her laugh, her spirit; all make Bruce feel so alive, so excited with life, so full of energy and plans and purpose. Bruce loves Yolanda more than words can say.
Unwittingly, I fell for you. I did not plan on falling in love so deeply, but I did. I did not plan on wanting someone so continuously, but I do. I did not foresee committing myself to someone so unreservedly, but I am.
You are my good luck charm. When you came into my life all sorts of good things followed, most importantly your smile and your touch. I have begun to believe in myself again.
You deserve the best of everything; A castle, coaches, servants by the score; Gowns, dresses and shoes, lots of shoes. You are so radiant, nothing is too good for you. Plants spring to life when you walk by. Animals frolic at the sound of your name. If instead of a castle, you'd settle for a remodel. If instead of a coach, you'd settle for a Honda. If instead of servants by the score, you'd settle for my undying devotion. If instead of gowns, silky and fine, you'd settle for a trip to Macy’s, then I am yours. | Love by the Numbers 1 is for the only one for me 2 is for the pair of us, what a great thing 3 is for two of me plus you, I wish there was, I love you so 4 is for forever and ever 5 is for your open hand that made me feel so welcome 6 is for transfixed, that's what I am with you 7 is for the days in the week that I love you 8 is for the number of legs an octopus has to encircle and hold you 9 rhymes with mine and that's what you are 10 is for all my fingers to touch, tickle and feel you
The very sight of you The sound of your voice You scent The way you move, sweeping through space I am infused, I am permeated My head spins, my pulse quickens, my vision narrows
