Dear Jeff, As you take the next step on your journey I want to let you know how much I will miss you. Remembering my interview with you almost 5 years ago and the phone call from you telling me I have the job, then the second phone call asking me if I would mind "Schlepping boxes" I said I could schlep with the best of them and your laughter put a smile on my face. I knew at that time that things were going to be good. You have been a wonderful friend, mentor and teacher. My life has been blessed because of your values, teachings, patience, and kindness. You are the "Renaissance Man" and I know you will continue to do great things and touch many more lives. Ronald Regan quotes: "I'm convinced more than ever that man finds liberation only when he binds himself to God and commits himself to his fellow man." " With much love and respect, Stephany Prater

"An investment in knowledge pays the best interest." Benjamin Franklin | "Our greatest natural resource is the minds of our children." Walt Disney

Dear Jeff, On my first day at VCOE, I met Jeff at a DataWorks training. Immediately I was impressed with his warmth, his commitment to doing the best job that he could, and his determination to have a little fun doing that job. Warmth, commitment and fun are qualities he carried from Teacher Support to RSDSS to the LSSASP project. Whether he was in charge of a meeting in Sacramento, a RSDSS Regional meeting in Moro Bay or visiting DuFour's school in Illinois, Jeff made sure that everyone in his group had the opportunity to learn and to enjoy the experience. An example of his "full service approach" to making professional learning fun was when he arranged for an evening field trip to see "Wicked." Jeff's work, RDSS in particular, required him to travel but no matter where he went, his heart was at home with Sandy, his children and his grandchildren. At the end of a long day of meetings I remember spending several hours with Jeff looking for ruby slippers to bring home to his newest granddaughter, Ruby. And always, when Jeff traveled he talked to Sandy, making sure he didn't miss the events of the day because he was away from home. I am really going to miss you, Jeff, but at the same time I' looking forward to the fun you will have doing the projects you've always dreamed about. May your retirement days be filled with colorful palates and children's giggles! Fondly, Valerie | Congratulations Jeff, What will we do around here without our resident "artiste" It's been great working with you this year. I wish you the best in all your future endeavors. Enjoy your retirement! Ellen Maves

Congratulations Jeff! Your professionalism and sens of humor will definitely be missed around here. I have really enjoyed working with you! Enjoy your retirement, you have earned it! Roger

Imagine... Dear Jeff, You imagined schools where there's no failure, all student learning all and every day, no gaps in achievement, or any other way. You painted this new picture. What would your students say? You imagined schools where 8 million more students know college is their future from the first; Where in every classroom there is a great teacher quenching their students' thirst for new knowledge, new horizons in our global universe... You imagined schools where all learners are so confident and strong; Where they can choose their futures and sing the new world's 21st Century song. You imagined students skilled and resilient, no strangers to the arts: Stewards of the earth and problem solvers building the new world anew from their hearts. You imagined students' voices in leadership they rise. Imagined afterschool as our partners, brining resources to be maximized. You were a major advocate for students' true success, you helped other design schools that live the principles that we all profess. You were the architect, designer for this expanded day. Students from dawn to dusk are winners every day. Isn't that what we dream of the Promise that we say? Now we imagine this new course you're charting with time, family and creative entertainment. We wish you the very best on the journey of your retirement. Thank you for your leadership and friendship, you will be missed. Best, Lynn and Martha

"From what we get, we can make a living; what we give, however, makes a life." Arthur Ashe I have no doubt that your life is full and rich due to your generous nature. From the day I met you I was always so impressed by your generosity and kindness. You helped us through Program Improvement and Distinguished School by always being there to patiently help us through the entire process. You always had time to answer our questions (most of which were pretty silly) and calm our concerns. I will never forget your thoughtful gesture in the sign you made me when I came to the County Office. You went out of your way to make me feel so welcome and I'm truly thankful for your thoughtfulness. It's been a true job working with your Jeff. You bring sunshine into the room wherever you go. You will be so missed in our office. My hope is that you enjoy your well deserved retirement and continue to share your thoughtfulness in whatever you decide to do. Fondly, Anna Merriman | "To make an end is to make a beginning. The end is where we start from." Best wishes at this starting point of your next endeavor. I hope you make as successful and joyful a go of it as you have in the time I've known you here at the county office. Thank you for being such a kind and patient teacher. You've taught all of us a great deal about how to lead with the end, with the children in mind. Michael | Success is not so much what we have but what we are. Jim Rohn

Dear Jeff, I enjoyed every minute creating your retirement book. The pictures inspired me to piece together the wonderful stages of your journey. Pictures don't tell a lie. I felt the warmth, laughter, joy, commitment and the sincerity and your desire to make a difference in everything you do. The world needs someone like you who can make a dreary day... fun and special! You'll be sorely missed! Lerma | Dear Jeff Best wishers for a fun-filled retirement. Your cheerful spirit and contagious laugh will definitely be missed. We all appreciate your hard work meeting the divergent needs of Region 8 RSDSS and organizing the after school grant work. Most important has been your genuine warmth and readiness to celebrate life events with your colleagues. Take care and know that you will be missed. Vicki Vierra

Happiness is only good. The time to be happy is now. The place to be happy is here. The way to be happy is to make others so. Robert G. Ingersoll | Dear Jeff, You have made a positive and enduring impact on students, teachers and administrators. Your actions remind us of the saying, "It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice." Thank you for your cheerful countenance, wise guidance and optimistic outlook. I wish you happiness and health. Judy Bowers | "Happiness and moral duty are inseparably connected." George Washington | Sandy and Jeff, Our daughters Erin and Courtney were best friends in elementary school. I always looked forward to dropping her off at your house to play or spend the night because she always had fun. When I picked her up she would tell us stories about how silly Mr. Hamlin was. She still remembers how nice the both of you treated her. Now that I have worked with Jeff, I agree with her, he is silly sometimes but always very nice. Thank you for being such a pleasure to work with . Best of luck in your retirement. Kathy Post
