FC: How I got to New York City
Hey, This is my story, so I'll try to tell it as best i can...
So this is how it all got started. Jackie and I took a trip to go visit my sister Sarah and her new husband Matt when the moved to NYC. | We both really liked the city, but I never thought one year later I'd be moving there to live!! We took in all the sights - Brooklyn Bridge, Central park and the Empire State Building (even got to take a limo around the city!) but the highlight was winning tickets to see Wicked in the front row!
I applied to NYU on a whim, My sister Sarah was pregnant and I really wanted to be near my first nephew (though at the time I didn't know if it was going to be a boy or girl) I never thought I'd get in...but low and behold the acceptance letter came and I found myself graduating and packing my stuff for the Big city!!!
One bus, two trains and 23hours later I was in New York City! I was going to stay with Sarah and Matt in New Jersey for a bit until i found a roommate and a place of my own. About a week after I arrived so did a much anticipated member of our family - Elijah Judkins Mayhew August 8, 2007
My friend Jess came out to visit soon after and we got to do some fun tourist stuff. | We saw Times Square, The 9/11 sight, and are really yummy food in China Town.
Soon after moving to the Big Apple I found a great church called Journey Metro. It had an amazing collection of young people and I really bonded with many people in the small groups.
Meanwhile Eli was growing and growing...
and growing and growing and growing...
I met lots of friends at NYU. Tanya, Guemali, Hamida, Amanda and Chris. These are my closest friends from school. We have had countless adventures and crazy stories in the Big City.
I joined a new Christian choir called The SymphoNYChorus We sang all kinds of music including Gospel, Contemporary, Classical, and Praise. We traveled around the TriState area singing in Long Island, Pennsylvania, and the City. Everything had to be memorized, but it was lots of fun!
My first summer I agreed to take a guy around the city to see the sights in exchange for him paying for me to see everything too. | I got to see the Statue of Liberty, and Top of the Rock for free! We also took in Rockefeller Center and we found the building from "Friends"
July 26, 2008 I was baptized in the Atlantic Ocean being supported by my small group and my good friend Jess that came back to the city for a visit that weekend.
