1: In the 1700's over 60,000 African Americans were packed into airless spaces of slave ships. Many of these people died through the "middle passage" across the Atlantic. The picture above is an example of what the slaves had to deal with in these terrible conditions

2: Also, Slaves were being sold by the millions and being taken from Africa and families were being split apart. | Slavery started in the ancient times and African Americans would be taken from their homes and brought to the US to work for plantation owners. They would be put under harsh conditions and barley given enough food to survive.

3: African Americans were being taken from all over Africa but some cities more than others
