S: 80 Years of Love
FC: 80 YEARS OF LOVE
Mostly, you do not know where your life will lead you... The lives you will touch along the way... But sometimes the opportunity presents itself... | To glimpse into the lives you touched--and Thank You for the past 80 years, and the many more we hope to share with you! | Happy 80th Birthday!
Mama, you always made things fun. | "A mother's smile can brighten any moment, and a simple hug can put joy in your day. A mother's love will stay with you forever, and touch your life in every way."
You knew how to cheer us up even in the worst of times. You took both my sister and I in even though you were young yourself and took care of us as if we were your own children and, in doing so, we became your own children. We have two mothers - how blessed can two sisters be.!?! | What do I say about your marriage to our Dad? He was not an easy person to live with but you managed to make it work--taking care of us in so many ways, teaching us to read, encouraging us in school, protecting us from Dad's temper, playing and laughing with us, sewing us dresses from flour sacks, lots of giggles and girly things!
We all worked hard on the farm but we learned a lot too--sometimes we learned that we don't want to depend on a farm for a living. I fell through the ceiling at our house in Grayson and you laughed until tears ran down your face, saying I looked like I was riding a bicycle. Remember the cat that knocked over a jar of turpentine and woke us all up screeching!?!--we thought someone or something was being murdered!
We have had some good times over the years, especially our vacations together. | The most memorable is the last vacation with Mom and Dad to Gatlinburg, Tennessee when it turned cold and rainy. We were staying in a tent (yes - Mom and Dad were tenting) and Dad had to hold an umbrella over Kal's head while he cooked breakfast to keep our food dry.
Mama was always caring for one critter or another... I still remember the time she took an owl under her wing. Finally, when it was healed, she released it back to the wild. That night the owl waddled back across the road towards the house! It must have known it had found it's mother just like the rest of us!!!
I had the joy of taking two trips to Germany with you--once when I was young (had a birthday there) and again when I was grown (just before I got married). | We must not forget the lessons in how to roll hair--I was so mad because I couldn't get the rollers in right but you insisted that I do it again and again until I got it right--Brenda caught on faster than me in this and it might be why I grew my hair so long (no hair rollers needed!!!).
Remember your uncle putting paper napkin bows in my hair? Those are still my favorite pictures from that trip.
You and Daddy came all the way to Texas to check out your first grandchild, Nathaniel. You have always been the best with babies!!
Smile!! | Smoky Mountains, Tennessee was always a favorite vacation spot when we were young--remember Fall Creek Falls--don't believe I could make the climb down now, much less the climb up. I do believe that was also the location where Daddy acquired a 3rd degree sunburn--not funny at all!
You have always inspired each of us to do our best in everything--in fact, you insisted on it. | You did it all with love and because you wanted the best for us. Thank you for believing in me...
Thanksgiving one year, we were trying to figure out how to celebrate Christmas. You told us how when you were a little girl, all you received was a pair of socks and a pair of panties...
Not only did you inspire the most entertaining "underwear gift exchange" we'd ever had, but you also reminded us to be grateful for all that we've been given.
Leo was your true love made in heaven--you both gave so much to each other. I am glad you had each other to love and lean on.
You called your sister and brother like clockwork every Sunday, showing us the importance of keeping up with family--even over thousands of miles. And if anyone ever says they're too old to learn something new, I'll be the first to tell them that my Grandmother learned to use Skype at 79 years old--if she can learn, so can they!!
You made everyone who came to our house feel welcome--with delicious food, friendly smiles, and always willing to help and do for others.
I LOVE GERMANY! | You've influenced all of us in our love of travel.
You had 2 chances at learning to drive in your life. The second time, Glen let you run a stop sign and didn't fuss at you like Daddy would have. You were so amazed that you still bring it up from time to time!
You work hard and play harder! But none of us will forget the time you helped Clint lift a 700 lb entertainment center by yourself!
By the way, mom... I still haven't figured out why you had to vacuum the house when we got back from vacation after midnight. I do believe the dirt would still have been there when we got up the next morning! | I'm reminded of the time we would swim in our pond and try to tan--you got the tan and I got the sunburn! Youlaughed so hard when my book fell in the water and I went after it!
It meant the world to me that you participated in my wedding. It made the day even more perfect. You are a special, wonderful woman who has spent her life giving and caring for others. I'm glad you are my grandmother! Happy 80th Birthday!
 Happy Birthday!
 From All of Us
You're the best thing to happen to me! We bring each other joy, comfort, security, and love. I'm glad you're my mom. Love, Mojo
You should have been a veterinarian! You always knew the right things to do for any sick animal--opossums, owls, raccoons, cows, birds, dogs, cats, squirrels--just anything breathing and you could fix it up. Let's not forget your miracle with Mojo!! You and Mojo were meant to be together so thanks to Nathaniel for making it happen.
You always did make the best cakes.... Have a beautiful birthday!!!
