FC: Alaska 2011

Alaska is full of God's creation. It is like walking into a canvas of color where each brush stroke and line was created by our Almighty God.

 Pottery

There are so many exciting things to do in Alaska, but making and painting pottery in Grammy's studio is by far their favorite. We could have spent the entire trip in this room.

Hiking | We had to take a break on the way up to hang on some trees and play in the woods. | One of the things we did together as a family was hike Flattop. It is a mountain in Anchorage. The kids had a blast hiking, playing on the cool trees and being with their cousins.

Flattop | On our way up!

Tyler and Clover taking a break | Jordan thought he had made it to the top of flattop only to realize we were not quite there. | What an amazing view !

4th of July | Here is a small sampling of the fireworks picked up on the way. | After building a fire to keep warm and cook our dinner, the boys started shooting off their fireworks and smoke bombs. Tyler had a blue smoke bomb go off up his pant leg. He had blue underwear and socks! Everyone had a great time.

Point | Point Woronzof beach is right next to the airport. You can play in the sand while planes take off right over your head. The kids spent hours climbing sand hills.

 Woronzof

 Pat's Cabin

Rope swings and zip lines provide hours of fun. | This is a great way to wear out the kids.

It's a wonder the kids survived this ride. | What is the weight limit on that three wheeler?

Three wheelers and s'mores, what more could you ask for?

Talkeetna | We spent a day walking around downtown Talkeetna and going to the beach at the end of town. It is a little town with a lot of character. Adam from Man v. Food even visited here and ate at one of the restaurants.

The ice cream we ate was made from scratch in this antique ice cream maker.

Talkeetna Beach | Boys and their rocks | What beautiful kids

Jordan attempting to carve his initials in the log.

Clover making sand angels | A face only a mother could love ! | What a cute couple

We found some cool railroad tracks. We walked across the bridge next to the tracks and found another sandy beach on the other side. | Tyler trying to live on the dangerous side. Posing on the tracks in between trains.

Alaska Wildlife Center | These little bear cubs are trained to sit, shake, stand and a few other things. Their diet consists of fruit, veggies and dog food.

Tiny little baby moose | All of the animals here were rescued from the wild or they were orphaned. It was a very interesting place to go for a few hours. The kids loved the bear cubs and the baby moose.

Whittier | After the wildlife center, we went through the train tunnel to Whittier. WE stopped here for lunch and got our fix of Halibut. It was really good food and we had a lot of fun too.

 Whittier

After lunch, we spent the afternoon exploring. We found a cool stream which Tyler tripped and fell into. He rode home without pants on.

Alaska Wildberry Company | It is our tradition to come here every time we visit Alaska. The kids love petting the reindeer and buying chocolate. And of course who could forget the giant chocolate fountain. That is any kids dream.

Landscaping | Dave always likes to operate heavy machinery when we are visiting. This time we did some landscaping which involved lots of dirt. The kids were in heaven and their clothes were black. | Everyone pitches in!

 Sea Life Center

WE spent hours exploring all of the animals native to Alaska. The kids especially loved touching all of the different starfish. | Can we take a break?

Water | Dave climbed up the hill next to the falls and got a look from the top.

F A L L | After the sealife center, we went and played in the waterfall near the inlet. It was a perfect day in Seward. We even got a little rainbow. | The rest of us parked next to the falls, but Diana wanted to take the more exciting way.

Seward | Leave it to the kids to think, "Hey, lets climb that old rusty thing over there." They were on top of the world.

"Hey Mom, look what I found!"

Family | Grandad Sam just relaxing at Laura's. | Lynne showing us some of her tae kwon do moves.

Those crazy Edwards!! | Grammy Edwards enjoying her family. | Lots of people in a little space.

Dipnetting | Every year thousands of men and women come out here to catch salmon. They set up camp and stay for the week. A youth group even set up bounce houses for the kids and handed out hot dogs to anyone who was hungry.

Cousins | They only see each other every two years, but when they get together it is like they have never been apart.

Birthdays And | Danielle and Tyler were decorating cupcakes for Danielle's birthday dinner.

Tea | The girls loved having tea parties. Sometimes they were even able to talk the boys into having a tea party with them. Danielle drank tons of tea and ate lots of sugar at these daily tea parties, so she was more than a little hyper.

Random Stuff | Grammy's painting of Tyler in Watercolor

Heading Home | Flying home on the redeye. Jordan is a few rows behind us. We were all upgraded to first class. It was so nice to have room to spread out, and Danielle enjoyed the movies.
