FC: Rantoul Vacation August 2012
On August 11, 2012 we had our Kaisor family reunion in Rantoul, IL. The Dodge family, the Kieswetter family and Preston Stanley were absent but the rest of us had a great time! Back: Mitchell, Blake, Leah, Sara & Reagan Stanley, Reggie & Allen Kaisor Middle: Tom &Valerie Duff, Leah & Becki Fields, Carol & Ken Selby Front: Brenden & Courtney Duff, Rachel & Ron Fields | Kaisor Reunion
There was a lot of good food to eat but the best part was playing with cousins!
It had been planned that Leah Fields would spend the week at Grandma and Grandpa Selby's but as the Duff family was getting ready to leave, Grandma asked if Brenden could also stay. Valerie and Tom consented and there were smiles all around. Since Brenden had not planned on staying, the first activity was a quick trip to WalMart to get some clothes, PJs and undies for Brenden. He even found some Cubs undies! A fun week had begun!
Oh no! He has Grandma's orange hat!
Grandma drove us to Springfield to go to the Illinois State Fair. There were many fun and interesting things to do and see.
Brenden was our protector with his nunchucks! | We did a lot of walking! | The cow made from butter was interesting. | The sprinklers felt good on a warm day! | We found Brenden's future! | Beautiful horses!
There is something of the marvelous in all things of nature. -Aristotle | Diamondback Rattlesnakes! | We saw a show on rattlesnakes. The man put his head in the barrel of snakes so we could hear them rattle! | He showed everyone the snake's fangs. One snake popped a balloon.
The Carnival Rides | Oh NO! Grandma's hat!
 The Karate Demonstration
 Break Dancing
Target booths were set up in conservation area to teach kids how to shoot a BB gun. The target was a turkey's head. Brenden got three good hits. Leah's turkey got away without a scratch. | TOP SHOT
Leah and Brenden got to try shooting a bow and arrow. It was hard to pull back the string and hold the bow steady. They both hit a target, though! | ARCHERY
MILKING THE COW | They were able to try their luck at milking a cow. Unfortunately, old Bessie was dry as a bone!
THE HYPNOTIST | The hypnotist was a favorite! The man hypnotized several people on stage. He had them soaring through space as Superman, driving rocketships and doing silly stunts. | The funniest was when he told them that when he turned around that they would not see his shorts but would see his very hairy butt. They were all very disgusted when he bent over!
LAKE OF THE WOODS | Tuesday we packed up a picnic lunch and went to Lake of the Woods Park in Mahomet IL
There are many bats that live in the ceiling of the covered bridge. We were able to see one hanging from it.
At the lake we played a game of bomb the target with rocks. We bombed leaves, seed pods and boats Grandma made from scraps of paper. Brenden got brave and decided to jump from one rock to another. A little slip of the foot and Brenden went face first into the water! We were glad that we were ready to come home anyway.
BRENDEN GOES HOME | After several fun days with Leah and Grandma and Grandpa Selby, Brenden had to meet his mom and Courtney in Effingham so he could start third grade! What fun we had!
On our way back to Rantoul,Leah and Grandma stopped at the Humane Society in Urbana to give them some dog beds that the Quilt Guild had made. We had fun looking at all of the potential pets. | Leah
Leah and Grandma spent some time working together on Leah's quilt. Leah sewed on the sashing and ironed all of the seam allowances. Then we laid out the quilt backing and made our quilt sandwich with the batting. It is all marked and ready to be quilted on Leah's next stay with Grandma! | Leah's mom came up to Rantoul and picked Leah up. She had to go home to celebrate her 10th birthday!
