1: Jessie Washington 1916 | Abe Lincoln's Quote, "The cause of civil liberty must not be surrendered at the end of one, or even one hundred defeats."

2: The pictures on the front page represent the historical perspective. The quote by Abe Lincoln represents the feelings of a few people pre 1945 who wanted to peacefuly get equality for all. Abe Lincoln was very much for the idea of nonviolence ideas where as others in the South were not as idealistic as shown in the other photograph

3: The Civil Rights Era | A map of the South | The photo above show the headline "High Court Bans Segregation in Public Schools"

4: The pictures and the headline on the previous page show nonviolence ideas by Rosa Parks quote saying that one person can make a differnece in the world and the headline showing that while many of the headlines were about different riots that went wrong many found joy in the nonviolent headlines

It is up to us to make them wonderful memories. ~Cathy Allen | In the previous page, Michelle and Barack Obama are pictured because they kind of embody what the civil rights was about and him being the first African-American President is a big deal because it was a huge step forward in African-American achievements.
