FC: Disney Memories

We had visited Disney World only a handful of times during our first seven years of living in Bradenton, Florida. Once or twice while my sister Rachel interned there, and another time with my parents. Then, in early fall of 2009, a successful garage sale joined with a great deal for Florida residents and AAA members, and we became passholders for Walt Disney World. We visited the four parks of Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios at every time of the year over the next several months. In the fall when the lines were short, pumpkins were out, and visitors dressed in costumes. On my birthday, the rainiest day imaginable. Near Christmas with the beautiful lights and decorations. Spring flower and garden festival at Epcot. Star Wars weekend at Hollywood studios. In all we visited Disney World on over 30 different occasions. Sometimes we'd spend several days in a Disney hotel, while other times we would drive over for an afternoon. We learned the secrets to getting around, where to park, and what to pack. Hannah, Leah and Noah became Disney with their favorite rides and shows. We hunted for hidden mickeys, traded pins, and collected autographs. And then we did it again and again. In April of 2010 we took the Call to move up to Wisconsin, and took with us many happy memories of our visits to Disney World. | Disney Memories

Goofy's Barnstormer | This was Noah's very first roller coaster. Height requirement: 35 inches. He cleared it by barely an inch on his first visit. Everyone loved watching the roller coaster crash through the barn while we waited in line. Hannah and Leah braved the front car; and mom didn't drop her camera taking this picture!

Cinderella's Castle in the Magic Kingdom

Sleeping Beauty | Cinderella | Daisy Duck | Chip and Dale | Rafiki | Penguin and Mary Poppins

Duffy: Mickey's Teddy Bear | The Queen of Hearts{ | Meeko and Pocahantas | Belle | Beauty and the Beast | Lotso Hugging Bear

The Magic Kingdom gets all decked out for Halloween. These big pumpkins are in Mickey's Toontown Fair right by Minnie and Mickey's cottages. (At right) Hannah and Leah love pulling at the sword in the stone.

 October 2009

In 2009, Walt Disney World let you celebrate your birthday for free at any of the parks. So, in November for Matt's birthday, Nathan and I joined Jaimie and Matt for a "Grown-Ups Only Disney Day." It is a completely different experience when you don't have to keep track of strollers (or children!). We rode roller coasters and ate around the world at Epcot.

These dancing window Minnie Mouse statues are just the cutest Christmas decorations on the street in Hollywood Studios. We took this picture the night before Jenise's birthday. | When we visited Disney during our Christmas vacation in January 2011 (after we had moved to Wisconsin) and all the Christmas decorations were still up, so Hannah and Leah recreated the picture from 2009. | 2009 | 2011

We took the kids out of school on my birthday so we could go to Disney World for the day. (free on your birthday in 2009) | Even though it rained the entire day, it was well worth it! Got to get some one-on-one time with Pluto and take our Dollar Tree ponchos out for a spin!

 Jenise's Birthday December 4, 2009

 Cinderella's Castle

Chilly Cold Days at Disney World | January 2010. Quite possibly the coldest days we ever experienced in Florida. We wore so many layers during these days--all of the warmest clothes we could find, all at one! | In the World Showcase, the kids designed a mask and went from country to country having it stamped, like a passport. | We took the kids around the world in the Epcot World Showcase and also spent some time in the Pop Century Resort.

 Kissed !

Noah, you've got a ways to grow for Space Mountain! The girls each rode it twice that day--back to back. Once with mom and once with dad. And then, never again. | After falling and scraping his head, Noah got a nice smooch of a kiss from one of Cinderella's stepsisters.

We loved visiting the Disney parks with Grandma and Grandpa Seehaver. That meant Mickey Mouse ice cream bars! And watching Grandpa in his guest appearance in the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular!

This is January 2011. Our Disney passes had only a few days left on them, so I took the kids out of school and extended our Florida stay by a few extra days so we could visit Walt Disney World one last time...for now... (Grandpa and Grandma joined in the fun, too!)

Epcot during the Flower and Garden Festival is just so beautiful. The many charactered topiaries seem to spring up overnight. And the wonderful playground to help with traffic flow made this especially fun for us!

We always enjoyed sharing our Disney days with friends and family. Thanks to the Disney "Give A Day Get A Day" volunteer program of 2010, we were able to share a few free days with Uncle Dan, Auntie Rachel and baby Katie. Another day was spent with the Peters family (Riley, Joel, and Danette). And, to top it all off, we got Great-Grandma Dottie to join the fun with us for a whole day at Epcot! (not to mention, super-preferred, no wait seating with Grandma's wheelchair for the day taking us right to the front of the lines!)

Exit signs of Disney World. Try to guess where each sign came from!

 Hidden Mickeys

We made it a special quest to find every character in the park. This is little Mike and big Sully from Monsters, Inc., (Below) Every time we drove to Disney World, we would look out for the giant hidden Mickey on the pole by the highway. Then we knew we had made it! I also liked taking pictures of the fun hats and T-shirts in the gift shops.

Silly Bands were just becoming popular...the wedding carriage outside the Grand Floridian's Chapel (free parking for us)...I started collecting pictures of all the different exit signs...T-shirts, hats, and a little statue. Up top, the girls are riding one of our favorite Magic Kingdom rides. We called it the Blue Line, official name is The Tomorrowland Transit Authority. We loved that there was never a line and the moving sidewalk/escalator that brought us up to the train.

Nathan and I flew back down to Florida to pack up before we moved to Wisconsin, and during this trip we spent a few days at Disney--just the two of us! Keys of the Kingdom Kingdom Tour, Behind the Seeds Tour, and Star Wars Weekend show wrapped up our visit together. Sort of a 10th Anniversary present to each other :)

Mickey Mouse always had a big crowd waiting for a glimpse in his tent in Toontown. At right was one of our favorite parades in Hollywood Studios called the Block Party. It was full of all Pixar characters!

Mickey's Philharmagic was another one of our favorite shows at Magic Kingdom. Donald Duck did lots of funny things. The Walt Disney: One Man's Dream was a walk-through museum all about Walt that we loved!

 Days at Disney

Hollywood Studios | Animation Studios drawing class, Pixar 's Luxo, Spectacle of Lights, High School Musical 3, Little Einsteins.

Nathan and Jenise in Animal Kingdom, Leah by the Nemo ride, the girls in line for Toy Story Mania, Hannah and grandpa and grandma Seehaver by some topiaries, and Marie the Aristocat in France.

"I only hope that we don't lose sight of one thing - that it was all started by a mouse." Walt Disney
