S: Happy 93rd Birthday 10/05/2011
1: 10/8/11 Dear Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, Today, our large family gathers here at a vineyard in California to celebrate your 93rd birthday. We come from all directions of the U.S., and there are a few who wish to join us but cannot get away from work. How fortunate that all of us are healthy and happy; we gather here and are surrounded by natural beauty. We are truly grateful for the blessings we have received from our forebears and from our father/grandfather/great-grandfather in heaven. Years ago in Taipei you worried about your oldest son living at the edge of the world and had sent no letters home. You came home from school and saw no letter upon entering the door; you refused to eat and were tormented with worry and anxiety. Years ago in Jiayi you carried your febrile youngest son in the depth of night and knocked at the doctor's door to seek help. It was you who grabbed the son, who now is himself a doctor, from the hands of the devil. Years ago in Hsintien your wobbling husband was about to fall down the escalator, it was you who stood firm and calmly held the sky to keep it from falling. Your love and care has made us what we are today. Your earnest love of life and sincerity with people are the greatest gifts you have given us. We wish that you to continue to be our guiding light in life. We support you all the way in the campaign to break the world's record of longevity! From your sons, daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren

33: This barren path led to the house in Taipei where 5 poor siblings grew up under the guidance of 2 full-time working parents. Their house was on the left at the end of the path. The walk alongside these low bushes is familiar to all of them. Grandma made several trips down the path each day. She had come to Taiwan with nothing and yet every single one of her children eventually travelled from this path all the way to America to pursue graduate studies. This turtle, one of a pair of our grandparents' friends, means a lot to Grandma, reminding her of good memories of Grandpa. | The turtles were originally found by Jerry in 1986 on a mountainside in Tennessee and transported to their new home in Tina's yard shortly thereafter. Over the years, our Grandparents became very fond of the turtles and excitement came with each unexpected turtle sighting. But for the past several years the turtles have been incognito. Out of the blue, one of the turtles showed up on Tina's driveway recently. Grandma was overjoyed to see her old friend, who, like she, is now without its mate, but still energetic as ever. Here the turtle joins us on a walk back in time to the old family home and into the future that we've all become a part of.
