BC: The End

FC: Welcome to the Swinging 20's | "Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow."

1: I am so glad that Prohibition is over. If my father got arrested one more time I was going to scream. My dad is a bootlegger. Actually my dad is one of top in Chicago. He was always gone and we was home he was always complaining about the “Business”.

2: Yay, we're finally in New York. That was such a long trip. Daddy found a job here. In Virginia they are plenty of jobs but they're all for white people. Today was my first day of school. I got a couple of dirty looks and mean comments but not as much as I would get in Virginia. I made a lot of new friends and my teacher is really nice. I can't help but think we will have a better life New York.

4: Momma and Papa know me so well. Tonight was the best night ever. I love Ella Fitzgerald and my parents surprised with tickets to her performance at the Cotton Club for my birthday. I even got to meet her. She is so nice. Maybe next year I can go see Duke Ellington for my birthday.

6: Our most treasured family heirlooms are our sweet family memories.

7: My father just lost his job. Tomorrow he is going to look for a new one. I am probably going to have to leave school to find a job. Every day one of my friends has to leave school to get a job. I’m glad that we paid off our house before the economy crash. At least have a permanent place to live.
