FC: Jamaica Mission Trip | July, 2012
With Islego Missions and Northland Church we traveled to Maumee Bay in Jamaica to build two houses in Steer Town, hold Vacation Bible School in Hermitage, and visit the Infirmary in St. Ann's Bay
Church on Sunday was at St. Ann's Bay Baptist Church
Our first walk around Steer Town to see where we would be building and meet the locals.
We stayed in Villa #12, a three bedroom, three bath villa with a wrap around balcony and nice porch area. Our house lady was Valerie
The house ladies would come in each morning, prepare our breakfast , lunch and dinner. They would clean up the first two meals, but after making dinner, they would head back to their homes, and we each took turns doing dishes and wrapping up leftovers. Hannah was on duty the first night - obviously with drying duty. She worked with Dave, his wife Beth, and Kristie. After dinner, we would circle up for a group debrief from the day's events which included "where did you see Jesus?"
The Blessing of the Hands Ceremony was after dinner. We pressed our hands in sand, had them washed by another member of the team, had oil placed on them in a cross, then we were prayed for.
Each morning after breakfast at the villa, we would head to Steer Town, be dropped at our work site and begin work on the houses we were building one for Coach and one Carry Ann. Keith and their family
Richard was not afraid of heights on this trip
Richard and Rob really got into the construction part of the project! | Hannah, Lindsay and I mainly painted -wood and fingernails and built friendships
There was a lot of painting to do. The kids Jamaican kids grabbed rollers, even 18 month old Dillon | Morning Glory Blue and White are the Isle Go house colors and are seen all over Steer Town | There was a lot of play and connecting with the Jamaicans while on site
Hannah led a lot of game with the kids at the work site
 JAMAICA 2 0 1 2
Where Did You See Jesus Today?
The girls loved having their nails painted all the kids loved hugs and attention.
Another outing was a trip to the Infirmary | After diner and Circle Up time, it was time for games - Taboo, Kemps and Spoons were favorites
We ate what the house ladies made - authentic Jamaican food | Interesting Eating: Lots of Fresh Fruit, Saltfish and Ackee, Highlighter Green Goat Jamaican Patties | Always Peanut Butter and Jelly - just less Peanut Butter since TSA considered it a cream

 Vacation Bible School Hermitage
Baptism Several of the team were baptized at Maumee Bay. Dusty Cooper, who lead our team baptized Lindsay. We had finished work for the day, headed down to the beach. There was a woman standing on the breaker wall and she broke out singing in a beautiful, bold voice "Born Again, Yes I am Born Again". It was a special memory!
We spent our last full day in Jamaica relaxing and enjoying as a tourist. We visited the market where we got some "deals", had lunch at Mother's. Jamaica patties were not as good as what our house ladies made for us. We headed to Dunns River Falls and climbed the falls as a group. It was cold - and slippery, but fun.
The guys put in some extra hours one afternoon and finished the house. The last thing we did was to all lay hands on the house and bless it. We also gave the family a Bible and some other books
 Bag Juice
