FC: PORTFOLIO | In The Eyes of Jem Finch
PORTFOLIO | Hey y'all. The name's Jem. I live in Maycomb County with my little sister Scout and my old man Atticus. Scout and I have been on crazy adventures with my best friend, Dill. I have a passion for the good ole game of football. 've always dreamed of playin' in a big grand stand with thousands of fans watchin' and cheerin' me on.
Scout, Dill, and I are always messin' 'round and findin' new fun things to do. We found a game to play 'round old Boo Radley's place. See, Boo is a strange fella. He's got a great ole hear but he's just shy. Scout and I could encounter a few incidences when Boo showed his genuine self.
One of the most important people in my life is none other than my old man, Atticus. He's got the greatest, biggest heart and ain't never hurtin' nobody. He sticks up for the innocent, even if they colored. He stands his ground and is always supportin' mine and Scout's decisions. He truly is an amazing man.
I hate to admit it, but Scout, my lil sis, has got to be one of the most important people in my life. She annoys the crud outta me, but she's got Atticus's big, great heart. I may not like hangin' 'round her all the time but I sure do appreciate it when she's there. She's just a hoot all around.
In the past few years of my life, I've come upon events that have changed my view on life. One of them is the Tom Robinson trial. You see, Tom was a colored man who done got blamed for a crime he didn't even commit. People should be treated fairly and shouldn't be judged by they doggone color of skin.
Another significant event in my life was the night my poor neighbor Miss Maudie's house went into flames. It was the dead of a winter's night and me and Scout were freezin' our rear ends off. Next thing we know, Scout got a blanket on her without either of us noticing. It had to have been Boo Radley himself.
With the life changing things that have happened in my life, there comes a few objects that have a significance. From my earlier story, that doggone blanket sure meant a lot. It shows that shy people can be nice and caring people. Boo was a strange fellow but his heart was in the right place.
Another important object that's got a significance to me is a gavel. It represents Tom Robinson's trial when he was treated bad and unfair like. Mr. Tom was a prime example of how the country treats certain people of certain races and colors.
"" | If there's just one kind of folks, why can't they get along with each other? If they're all alike, why do they go out of their way to despise each other? Scout, I think I'm beginning to understand something. I think the beginning to understand why Boo Radley's stayed shut up in the house all this time. It;s because he wants to stay inside. (240)
Jem was one of the characters in the book, To Kill a Mockingbird, that saw through the race and color of mankind and looked at his character and personal being. Jem figured out that the color of a person's skin does not reflect the personality or the heart of the person. He saw through what the Ewells were claiming had happened and saw Tom's innocence. People in American society today should look at Jem as an example and follow it.
