S: Lighthouse Family Retreat #7 @ Gulf Place, Florida
FC: Lighthouse Family Retreat Gulf Place, Florida July 9-12,2012
The Best Week ever! | At Lighthouse we serve families living through childhood cancer at a seaside retreat by helping them to laugh, restore family relationships & find hope in God.
Our volunteers come from all over & all ages to serve as Jesus' hands & feet. They fix all their meals, clean their condos, watch their kids, play, sing, dance & whatever else is needed to help these families forget about cancer for a short time. | Before the families arrive, we prepare their condo for them by making it feel warm & welcoming. We leave gifts on their beds, bake cookies. set up chairs & even learn a dance just for them! Then the volunteers wait anxiously to meet their family that they will love on for the week!!
When the retreat families arrive they are greeted by their family partners who will care for them all week
How could you not love on these beautiful faces!!!
 Morning Watch
Every morning after breakfast we had a short devotional time. We would sing, dance, receive a short message about the theme of the day & pray for blessings on the day. What a great way to start the day off right!! | God is good! God cares! God is in control! God wants us to know him!
Flip Flop | Each morning after breakfast & Morning Watch, the volunteers would hang with the kids while the parents were in common grounds. They would swim, dance, dress-up, play games, do crafts & work on their talent show acts.
 Flippity Flop | Star Fish
 hanging out
 Tennis anyone? | Match Point | 30 - Love
Getting ready for the talent show
Italian Night | All the volunteers dressed & ready to serve a delicious meal to their families & dance the night away!!!!
Families were seated, volunteers danced in with salad & started to serve when the rain came... | As usual, the volunteers rallied, helped the families to their condos & delivered their meal to them. It became a true family dinner!
Before the families arrived, Summer staff broke us in to 3 groups & taught us a Flashmob dance. In the middle of welcoming all the families we surprised them as we group by group joined in the dance!! | "That's what makes you beautiful!!!"
Parent's Night Out | Pizza by the Sea | We celebrated Nicole & Jim Root's 14th wedding anniversary with them.
The family partners took mac & cheese & salad for dinner to their family's condo. They sent the parents on their way to dinner. After eating. all the kids & volunteers went to the lawn & had an ice cream party & watched a movie. Some watched while others played. A good time was had by all.
These children & families are stronger than Superman & anything else in the world!
Our retreat moms have had to hold their children down & do things with their hands that they never imagined doing. | Their feet have walked countless hospital hallways & doctor's offices | We try to give them a few minutes to escape from all that. We do manicures, pedicures, neck massages. Some fall asleep, Some talk & giggle. It's their time to think of only themselves.
Frost Bites | Seaside, Florida | There is an airstream trailer down in Seaside on 30A that sells the best shaved ice around. The owner's son was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer at a young age. The prognosis was not good. He is now in his 30's & healthy. Lighthouse is very blessed by the generosity of Frost Bites to all our families & volunteers.
Low Country Boil | Zack was the watcher of the pots | Awesome dinner before the big Talent Show | Time to see everyone shine.
Retreat 7 Leadership Team Incredible group of people to work with.
We laughed, we danced, we played, family relationships were restored & hope was found in our amazing God.
It was the best week ever
