8: Work and Play | Dad sent Marilyn and I with a small tractor, stone boat and large water barrel to the well in our pasture to get water for some of the animals in the barnyard. I was about 10 years old, Marilyn 16. Because she was the oldest, she got to drive the tractor and I was holding the water barrel on the stone boat. Away we went. Get to the well, pumping the pump, filling pail after pail with water until we filled the barrel full. Marilyn jumps on the tractor and I am still on the back hanging on to the barrel filled with water. Marilyn doesn't know how to drive, and she starts off with a BIG JERK. The barrel falls over drenching me. I start screaming. She eventually looks back, sees me soaking wet and starts laughing her heart out. I immediately go back to the well, fill the pail with water and start chasing her around the pasture, trying to throw the water at her. Even the cows were watching us. We sure gave the Heebners, our neighbours, something to look at. Eventually we filled the barrel again and made it back to the farm yard with the barrel full of water. Bernadette
