 THE THREE SISTERS

We're lucky. We're a very close knit family who takes joy in simply being together. We love visiting each other, helping each other and being there for each other via phone, etc. In the words of our very own Dawn, "I love us."

 Holidays

 Vacations

Vacationing at the Jersey Shore when we were little. Building sand castles and playing in the ocean. Eating Mack-n-Manco Pizza and drinking Bob's Lemonade. | Ocean City | WILDWOOD

As time went on our trips became more extravagant. In 2000, most of the family spent some time in France, in Yport. Normandy was gorgeous and the people so friendly. We ate loads of crepes, drank some lovely wines and roamed the countryside. | A couple summers were spent in the Outer Banks of NC in massive houses with private pools. If this wasn't such a crazy drive, I think we'd be there each year. We've had some great times in OBX! | Fall of 2009, most of us went to Maine, to Bar Harbor. We ate lots of lobsters, stayed in a great B&B and laughed a lot.

There have been marriages welcoming Bill and Dave, graduations, birthdays, transplants and now, a very special anniversary. Through it all, we've been together, celebrating the joys and weathering a few storms. | Milestones

Mom: You taught us to always be friendly and polite, to laugh at ourselves and not take life too seriously, to make bird's eye eggs, to love thunderstorms and the correct way to fold fitted sheets! You showed us compassion, that it was ok to cry and that time would heal almost any hurt. You always made our birthdays and holidays special and our home feel warm and safe. | MOM

Dude | Dad: grille meister, controller of the controllers, math tutor, logical thinker, blueprint drafter, cheEry picker, jokster, pool pal, bOnanza player, French onion soupster, project helper/general contractor/carpenter dude. You taught us to snap-a-line, erase completely, measure once cut twice and how to scalp a forsythia. You taught us silliness at all costs, how to be a good listener and what it means to be a good friend.

The Transplant: October 23, 2006 Julie gives a kidney to her dad who she loves very, very much. | Two days post transplant. "Dude, that was fun!" | The entire family makes the trek to Pittsburgh, PA to UPMC to be there for Dad and Julie. It was a pretty amazing time. We arrived early and got the family together for a beautiful dinner at the Monterey Bay Fish Grotto. A night we'll never forget. Other than a few setbacks early on, Dad is fine and has a functioning kidney. "The reason I had kids was to harvest their organs!" ~Dude | Dinner at Monteray Bay Fish Grotto the night before. | The kids form "TEAM DUDE" participate in the Donor Dash in Philadelphia. | Mom, Dad, Julie and Bill attend the annual "Transplant Dinner" in Pittsburgh in the spring post-transplant. It was truly a moving night. | Oh boy.

Mom and dad, On the occasion of your 50th anniversary, we got together and talked about our lives as a family. What we came up with is that the three of us got very, very lucky when they were handing out parents. You have always been fair with us. You've always supported our crazy ideas, even when you knew our plans were far-fetched, you never told us we couldn't do something, you gave us the drive and self-confidence to try. You were there when we fell on our faces (sometimes literally!)--you brushed us off, got us to the ER for a few stitches and set us right back up on our proverbial horses. You were always kind and consistent with us. When we got in trouble, we knew we truly deserved it. You've always made an effort to visit and support us as school, jobs, life took us all over the country--this has really meant a lot to us. As adults you showed us the importance of hard work, honesty and compassion. You taught us, above all else, to keep a sense of humor throughout whatever life throws our way. That laughter heals and families change with time to become great friends who revel in just spending time together. Thank you for having three of us. You gave us each two sisters who evolved to also be our very best friends. We know just how rare this is. Above all else, you gave us love every step of the way. We adore you both and wish you many more happy, healthy years together. With love, Diane, Julie & Dawn | From your daughters: | May 20, 2011
