Jayden Duncan-Nassie: Author & Illustrator Born: March 17, 2006 Book # 1: Mr. Snowman April 3, 2011 | Inspirations: 1. Jayden 'loved' the stories that Papa created and told him: e.g. "Mr. I like it! vs Mr Picky"; "Mr. Cooperative vs Mr. I don't want to" ; "Mr.That's Great vs Mr. Eeuw"; "Mr. Good Idea vs Mr.Ya But "; and "Mr. Focus." 2. For his 5th birthday, Noni and Papa gave Jayden several books in the "Mr. ... " series by Roger Hargreaves. 'Though Jayden loved them all, three of his favourtes were "Mr. Happy", "Mr Messy", and "Mr Cool." These characters are in his Mr. Snowman book. Jayden has never seen or heard the Roger Hargreaves "Mr Snowman" story. Neither had Noni and Papa. | 4 yrs 8 mo Nov. 2011
Jayden drew the pictures and created his "Mr. Snowman" story as a present for his Mom's birthday. He was very proud of his book, and thought that other family members would like a copy of it, too. Noni helped Jayden by cutting pages for his book, and by printing his words near their matching pictures. Noni will also arrange to have extra copies made for other family members ... while hoping that this vertical format will work out OK!
Jayden is very creative. For remaining pages in this book, Noni will showcase some of his other creations. Enjoy! | This is a collage Jayden made for the Lundar Fair 2010. He won a 1st prize ribbon. He was 4 years old then.

This is one of the he first drawings of people we ever saw Jayden make. It was the beginning of his obvious enjoyment of drawing. He was 4 1/2 years old.Soon after his focus switched, to drawing fish, river monsters, and sometimes dinosaurs. | "This is a triceratops and a stegasaurus." At ages 4 and 5 Jayden knew names and specific details about many dinosaurs.
'There are 2 fish and a Peace Dove. "The blue one is a sea monster. The orange one is a cookie cutter shark.' | "This is an alien fish. It is an invasive species. It can swim up to 30 kms/hr. Really it is make-believe." Jayden began using scissors at age 3. He has always shown amazing dexterity and preciseness. And he loves to cut out tiny, detailed, things.

In summer 2011, at age 5, Jayden created this west coast salmon using Trio. It's lower jaw and fins are especially accurate. He also made a fishing rod, and then 'fished' for this wonder-full salmon. In summer 2011, fishing was a favourite play focus for him. | ... "a tiger fish and a small salmon." Note the detail Jayden drew, and then skillfully cut out.

Today Jayden helped Noni count her tiny quilt blocks. He grouped them in piles of 10, and then counted that there were 282 blocks. This is the first time he counted this way or that high. Jay was excited by his accomplishment, and played with many Maths additions and subtractions today. Perhaps this will show in his future drawings and creations.?.
