S: Smith Family Memories 2010

FC: Family Memories 2010 Laura, Ryan, Autumn, Noah, Brooklyn, Eric and London

Noah's Baptism Day January 24th,2010 What a great way to start the new year! Noah was so excited to be baptized. His Grandma and Grandpa Smith and Aunt LeAnne and Aunt Bridgette were there and even his 1st grade teacher, Mrs. Ferguson. His 2nd grade aide Miss. Minth came and saw Noah at our house with a gift for him on his very special day. We are so proud of you!!

PINEWOOD DERBY & BLUE AND GOLD BANQUET | Eric helped Ryan and Noah get their pinewood derby cars ready for the race. It was a fun day but the only time they weren't in last place was when Ryan beat Noah!! They can only get faster next year! Good Luck!!

The Blue and Gold banquet was in February. I am the Cub master for the ward. Amy Formenti, Isolde Newman, and Mark Kime are our awesome den leaders! Ryan received his Wolf badge, a gold arrow point, his geography, heritage and science loop and pinewood derby patch. Noah received his BobCat badge, chess and science loops and pinewood derby patch.. Bruce's mom, Mary Kay Goehl, made an awesome cake to celebrate the 100th year of scouting in the U.S.A. I am so proud of both of you!!

My sister's family, the Gibbs, visited from Canada in February. Colin, Stacey, Lucas (3 yrs), Chole (23 mo) and Tyler (Bones) (8 mo) came to visit from Canada in February. We had fun at the zoo, museums, Jump Zone, candy factory and just hanging out. It was great for the cousins to get to know each other better! Come again soon!! | Our Company = CANADA Cousins

Cousins are ready-made friends for life. -Anonymous

For spring break we went to Shipshewana water park. We arrived at the hotel and went swimming then went ALL the next day. It was great because it was small enough the three middle kids could explore alot on their own and then Eric and I were able to split up and supervise Ryan and London. It was quite expensive but tons of fun!! We enjoyed some ice cream in Michigan on our way home - well not really on the way home - and we saw a scrapbook store so I was able to check it out and buy some really cute cub scout paper. Can't wait till we go back!!

EASTER | The kids are always excited to dye Easter eggs and receive their treats from the Easter Bunny.

Eric hides the dyed eggs in the backyard. | The kids loved searching for the hidden eggs over and over.

The three middle kids decided they wanted to learn to ride bikes. Eric tried to teach Noah 1 or 2 times but became really frustrated. Enter Laura (a.k.a .Mom/Bike Whisperer). I had no idea how to teach the kids how to ride a bike so I looked it up on the Internet. | Fall seven times, stand up eight. - Japanese Proverb

I got some great ideas such as practicing on the grass going downhill and having them learn how to fall (on the grass) so they wouldn't be so scared of falling when they actually did fall. It was really neat to see each child's personality come out as they tried to learn to ride a bike. Brooklyn was cautious and pedaled so slow she would fall over. Noah was easily frustrated and just couldn't understand why when he knew what to do it didn't just all come together. Autumn was enthusiastic and just pedaled really fast. She actually was the last to be taught but the first to master the skill. The next door neighbor boy (Nathan) helped run beside the kids to help them if and when they fell. Ryan and London had fun just being outside. make a long story short in less than 5 days I taught all 3 kids how to ride a bike. They really enjoyed the freedom of finally being able to ride a bike!

Cub Scout Day Camp 2010 | Laura, Ryan, Ethan, Bruce, Christian, Noah, Sam, Jaxon and Jacob.

Ryan and Noah attended day camp. I am Cub master and walked for two days to help Ryan. Eric even went with the boys one day. Some of the activities included: badminton, BB gun shooting, archery, shooting rocks, sling shot, making a tic-tac-toe board of wood and fishing. Ryan and Noah both caught a fish! Ryan's favorite activity was fishing (I think) and Noah's was BB gun shooting. It was great!! | DO - YOUR - BEST

Ready for the Beach | Silver Beach - St. Joe Michigan (1 hour drive) | Silver Beach is our FAVORITE!!

Beach Bums! | We had so much fun this summer at the beach!! In one week I think we went three times!! Sand, friends/family and water -- an AWESOME combination for fun!! | Friends included - KayLynn, Rachel, Hailey, Nathan, Jacob, | Angie, and Ali Mathews and Bruce and Kimber Goehl.

Swim Lessons At Valparaiso High School

Ryan, Brooklyn, Noah, and Autumn took swimming lessons in July at the local high school. Ryan was able to get one-one lessons and his teacher was great! His swimming skills improved significantly and we were very pleased. Brooklyn has become a very good swimmer and loves the water. She worked on all the different swim strokes. Noah is a great swimmer too! He usually had his lessons in the deep end and learned how to dive. Autumn loved lessons and her skills really improved!! She even worked on back stroke. Lessons were every day for 3 weeks and totally worth it! Sometimes I would bring KayLynn Mathews kids, Jacob and Angie, to swim lessons and drop London off to play with Ali. This worked really well! They ALL jumped off the diving board! My kids are FISH!!

 Nauvoo and Carthage Jail

We decided to go to Carthage and Nauvoo, Illinois with three of Eric's sisters and one of his nephews. First we went to the visitors center and explored the outside gardens. Next we went to Carthage Jail. The kids were very reverent when in the room where the Prophet Joseph Smith was martyred. We went on an wagon our of Nauvoo and this was a great overview of the area. The kids even got a chance to pet the horses. We then made our way to the family life center.

In the family life center we learned about using flax to make clothes and it looked exactly like Brooklyn's hair (see previous page). Alan, Noah and Brooklyn had a chance to make a rope (previous page). The kids also played with blocks and London loved the baby cradle. We went to an outside children's play area next. The kids dressed up, Ryan got candy from Bridgette, and they played games. They loved this area the best!! We also had a chance to see the brickyard and the wagon making and blacksmith's shop. After this we went home to eat and get ready for a play and then the pageant.

After we ate and rested at the hotel we went back to the Visitors Center for a play about life in early Nauvoo. The 15 minutes I saw was great!! However, London and I spent most of the time out in the lobby because she would not settle down and kept crying. The last activity of the night was the pageant. Before the pageant the kids played games and participated in all sorts of fun activities. London cried during the pageant too so I missed that. Of course we had to swim whenever we could at the hotel. Before we left Nauvoo we took a picture in front of the temple. Eric and his sisters (Bridgette, Eric, Anna and LeAnne) also in front of the temple.

The kids are excited for their 1st day of school.! London is already missing her siblings!

 I'm so sad.

"We may not have it all together ... but together we have it all!" | - Family pictures in the park by Amy Formenti Thanks!

Library School London and Ali Mathews signed up for library school. It is a 7 week program for approximately 45 minutes.. One half hour by themselves and then 15 minutes with Mom/Dad to watch a short film and do a craft or treat. They LOVED it!!

London and Ali enjoyed dressing up as princesses for Halloween. Thanks KayLynn for finding such cute dresses. Don't you just love London's hair? Ally and London are such very good friends -- almost like sisters. | Walk Beside Me Don't walk in front of me; I may not follow. Don't walk behind me; I may not lead. Just walk beside me and be my friend... -Author Unknown

We arrived at the ward party and found a Princess Leah (Rachel Mathews) for Luke Skywalker (Ryan). Our neighbors, the Olivarez family, came with us to the party. The kids had tons of fun at the ward trunk-or-treat party!

Once upon a time the Ruby Red Princess (London) was kidnapped and Luke Skywalker (Ryan) was charged to rescue her. However, some evil wizards came and cast a spell on Luke and made him unable to speak so ...the wizards from Hogwarts - Harry (Noah), | Hermione (Brooklyn), and Ginny (Autumn) along with Sirius Black (Eric) came to the rescue and were able to save the day! Everyone we saw loved our costumes and several people said they were the best they had seen this year!!

 Girl Scout Camp 2010

Brooklyn and I went to an overnight girl scout camp out. Brooklyn learned to tie knots and start a campfire. She made several crafts too! Overnight it snowed!! We were so surprised.!! Brooklyn's favorite time at the camp out was when she went to the science experiment workshop. Her favorite experiment was one with food coloring and milk in a pie plate. They had the colors mix and then were able to make the colors separate again.

My Grandma Meldrum's funeral was November 12, 2010. She was 86 years old. It was a family reunion of sorts with all of her grandchildren and several great-grandchildren in attendance. I held my new niece, Isabell. My good friend, Tricia Wright, allowed several of us to stay at her house. It was like old times!! | Grandma's children are: Joan (Olsen), Dwayne, Brad, Diane Meldrum and my dad, Craig. Four adults and ten kids = PARTY TIME!! | Truly great friends are hard to find, difficult to leave and impossible to forget.
