2: As a child Papa Jackson was called "Baby". In his older years he was known as "J.L." To the community of Sunny View he was known as the "Governor". | The children ran home from school everyday at lunch. Annie would feed the children and then send them back to school.

3: Annie Jackson would let the children trade eggs for a coke when there were extra eggs. This was a very special treat! | Papa Jackson trained a dog to catch the specific rooster that he wanted. The dog would catch the rooster without harming him. | Bill Jackson would sing as he worked in the fields. His favorite song was Amazing Grace.

4: As a child, Papa Jackson was kicked in the head my a horse. His Father told him he spooked the horse. Papa always said that he did not spook the horse! | The kitchen wood stove was the only source of heat. The children would run from their beds to the fire in the mornings. Three children would share a bed. No one wanted to be in the middle because it was so hot! To stay warm they had to pile many quilts on the bed. Because the quilts were so heavy, they had to take them off of the bed just to roll over.

5: Papa Jackson milked cows when he was a child. There was a cat that would come around and he would spray milk into the cat's mouth. | Bill Jackson's oldest daughter, Frances, went to Appalachian State University and graduated with a bachelors in teaching. Bill Jackson paid the tuition by hauling sweet potatoes on a horse and buggy all the way to Appalachian State University.

7: When Papa Jackson came home for the holidays, a bus would drop him off at Lake Lure. He would walk the rest of the way home. He usually arrived very late at night. He would get in bed without awakening anyone and then be found by his parents the following morning.

8: U.S. Marine Corps 09/06/1961 - 11/19/1964 | Honorably discharged

9: Traveled to: Hawaii, Okinawa Japan, Philippines, Hong Kong, St. Thomas, Martinique, Sicily, Greece, Crete, Naples Italy, France, Barcelona Spain, Athens, Malta, Jamaica, Haiti, Venezuela, San Juan Puerto Rico and many other places. | "Always Faithful"

10: After an honorable discharge, Papa Jackson came home to Sunny View and married Sue Ruff. | J.L.

11: Papa Jackson enjoyed camping and just "shooting the bull" around a campfire. He loved the great outdoors.

12: Papa Jackson had two daughters, Angela Susan Jackson, born June 16th, 1975 and Johnna Leigh Jackson, born December 17th, 1984. | Johnna, J.L, and Angie | Angie, Johnna and J.L. | J.L., Johnna and Angie

23: J.L. picking blackberries. | He kept a beard most of his life. Occasionally, he would shave to surprise everyone! | He liked to guess what a gift was. Most of the time he guessed right.

24: Papa Jackson enjoyed hunting deer and fishing.

25: Papa Jackson farmed most of his life. He had an apple orchard which he replaced with muscadines many years later.

26: Many hours were spent in his greenhouse, fields and packing shed

27: Papa Jackson farmed vegetables for many years of his life. Papa grew all types of tomatoes, hot peppers, sweet peppers, bell peppers, okra, squash, and eggplant.
