1: It's a Gassaway Guy Thing
6: When the world's real quiet and all is asleep, My thoughts drift toward mem'ries my heart still holds deep, We'd meet in the mountains, my brother and I, With my dad in the holler when the summer was high. The days thick with dragonflies and heat sticky wet, The nights cool and quiet where stars and hills met. Down the road fer a piece was how you got there, Rubbin' elbows with grandpa- a kid's answered prayer. We'd eat a good breakfast, pack corn sticks and pop, And brag on the fishin' line we'd quickly drop, Out on the lake 'neath tall Center Hill, We'd drown poor ol' crickets from noon...well....until
7: We'd snicker and giggle 'bout pulling pap's line, Place bets with no pay off and listen for whines, Of the loser who won for puttin' in time, With my dad and my grandpa and a brother of mine. Fishin' comes naturally to us Gassaway men, There are prob'bly fish scales growin' under our skin, Now mem'ries of grandpa will never soon die, With my dad in the holler and my brother and I.
