Every summer we spend time at a cottage on Lake Mashpee, Cape Cod. We go with our cousins, Andrew and Allison, our parents and our grandmother, Beppe.

This year we also went to Western New York for Tom's 96th birthday. While we were there we visited a lot of interesting places in the area and we went to Tom's birthday party.

We stayed with the Hills in Youngstown. We loved the dogs. | It was great to swim in the pool and play in the basement at their house!

We visited Lewiston, the Niagara Gorge, the Buffalo waterfront and Fort Niagara. | We ate at some favorite places: DiCamillo's and Bocce Pizza!

We spent a great day in Niagara Falls where we did the Cave of the Winds walk. Oma and Opa joined us. We liked it so much we went a second time!

Then we went to visit Tom and Maria. We brought pizza from Bocce Pizza and had a picnic at Canterbury Woods.

Tom had a big 96th birthday celebration | We all enjoyed the party!

Next we went to Mashpee and the cottage.

There's always a lot to do on Lake Mashpee. we had fun on the water on floaties and on kayaks. Fishing with a net was great because we always caught baby catfish. Ice cream was a special treat.

Uncle Gerry took us to the ocean on his boat. We found razor clams. Then we caught a lot of big crabs in his lobster pots. Too bad we didn't get any lobsters that day!

One day when we had dinner it started to hail outside. That really surprised us. Ellen had dinner with us that night.

After a while, our cousins, Allison and Andrew joined us. We had a lot of fun being together!

We spent a lot of time in the dock and going in the small motor boat. There was always a lot to do .

Kayaking was easy with our new wave kayaks. We all learned to paddle really well. | However, Andrew preferred to have Sophia paddle him around the lake!

We all had a chance to sail in the Sunfish sailboat with Daddy.

We went beachcombing at two different beaches and found lots of interesting creatures!

Look at the great stuff we found! | We kept them for a while, then let them go back into the ocean.

On the way home from the beach we stopped and had ice cream together.

One day we had a treasure hunt! We followed clues to find the hidden treasure.

Once, on a rainy day, we went to a mall. We ate pizza and then we went to a jumpy house place!

In the evenings we sometimes stayed inside and watched movies, read Jip and Janneke or used the computer and iPhone.

One day we had a talent show and a fashion show. Allie was the model. Sophia was the director. Ben did his splits. Another day we made a zoo with our stuffed animals. We invited Ellen over to see our show and our zoo.

The dock was our favorite place to play every day. We made some pulleys with buckets. We went fishing and also fed the ducks.

This summer we used the motor boat to pull a small surfboard. Everyone had a chance to ride behind the boat on the board. It was lots of fun!

We fished with nets as well as with fishing poles. | We caught lots of baby catfish. We put them in a bucket and then we let them go again.

Sometimes we went to the beach across the lake. We played with buckets and made tunnels and castles. We also caught some baby fish there.

We had a great summer with family and friends! We will always remember the summer of 2011!
