25: Gerberas For Her Smile by Damon Dixon Lazy days filled with conversation and laughter Strength in a smile and no time for sorrows Ema kneels down in the tall, tall grass She breathes deeply The smell of flowers, sunshine and rain For too long she had been away from this wondrous place The pain she had been carrying, now forgotten For her troubles, a meadow Populated mainly by Gerbera daisies As whimsy drew her stance from one direction to the rest The daisies bowed Acknowledging her time of peace and joy In this field of never-setting sun It never grows too hot or too mild For if she tires, she has but to lay her head down And the flowers bend to her will Reaching upwards with slight strain To cushion her head as she lay down A reward she had long saved for In deeds both large and small To those she knew and others she knew not well Great or small did not matter As she was driven to heal in her way Those that knew her saw it often, though not always As we cannot constantly bear other's burdens So, she did what she could So, in this long, late summer She rests in a field of daisies The next day she awakes to the sounds of little wings fluttering about A thousand little kings and queens Black and gold, regal to a fault Sing to her softly as only butterflies can She laughs, she plays Never needing rest She plays again
