S: Vista Stake Presidency 2004-2012

BC: "Thanks to great leadership, the Vista 4th Ward was able to come together as a family and erect a replica of the house of the Lord." Nauvoo Temple Replica, 2011, Vista 4th Ward ~Euscaldom Baez

FC: Thank You for your years of love & service | Vista Stake Presidency | 2004~2012

2: Perfectly united, fiercely obedient, and ever loving is how we will always remember you, Presidents Hatch, Holladay, and Martinez. The power of your example lifted the Ballif family and the Vista Stake. We are forever grateful for your tireless service and your absolute devotion to the Lord and the cause of Zion. We love you. Hurrah for Israel! The Ballif Family: Julia, Mark, Greta, Lincoln, John, Louisa, Sydney, Lily, Mitchell, Jane, Henry, and Mary | President Hatch, President Holladay, and President Martinez: Three giant, spiritual pillars! Thanks for the service you provided our Stake and the example we saw of following the Savior. We are a better people because of your leadership and where you pointed us to anchor ourselves . . . to Him! We love you, and may His love and peace continue with you and your families. A special thanks to your amazing spouses and families that assisted you to serve with such dedication and faithfulness. Sam, LeDawn, Sarah, Jake, Matt, Amanda, Eli (and Jenni, who awaits a glorious reunion and has been touched by all of you)

3: IT'S NOT WHAT WE HAVE IN OUR LIFE, BUT WHO WE HAVE IN OUR LIFE THAT COUNTS. - J. M. Laurence | Words cannot express the gratitude and love we feel for each of you. Thank you for your service and for teaching us to be a Zion people. We have learned much from your leadership through the years. Know that some of the most tender moments in our lives occurred during the time of your service in the Stake Presidency. We have prayed with you and prayed for you. We have shed tears with you and we have served by your side. Because of your example, we have become better as individuals and stronger as a family. Our hearts will forever remember the sermons taught by each of you. President Hatch’s admonition comes to mind, quoting President Benson’s call to obedience, “When obedience ceases to be an irritant and becomes our quest, in that moment God will endow us with power.” We cherish President Holladay’s love of the scriptures and his gift for teaching gospel principles. One favorite scripture will always be remembered, “Art thou a brother or brethren? I salute you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, in token or remembrance of the everlasting covenant, in which covenant I receive you to fellowship, in a determination that is fixed, immovable, and unchangeable, to be your friend and brother through the grace of God in the bonds of love, to walk in all the commandments of God blameless, in thanksgiving, forever and ever. Amen (D&C 88:133). And, President Martinez’s “We become the things we love” and his counsel to “develop a personal relationship with the Savior and come to know Him.” Thank you for all you do and for the priesthood leaders that you are. With love and admiration, The Vongsawad Family Tum, Jamie, Brandon, Travis and Cameron

4: We want to express our deep love and appreciation for the time and sacrifice you freely contributed to our Vista Stake family over the past several years as our Stake Presidency. We feel privileged that we were able to work closely enough with you to feel a personal friendship and bond with each of you. We thank you for the love you taught and demonstrated for each individual within the Vista Stake. It was with mixed emotions that we raised our hands to show our appreciation at your release from the Stake Presidency. We love and sustain Presidents Ballif, Vongsawad, and Penrod, but you will truly be missed. We look forward to working beside you as our paths continue to cross, for years to come and into Eternity. Sincerely, Kathleen & Mark Sommer

5: You are truly loved by the Anderson family! We are better because of your loving and inspired leadership. You have helped us take to heart President Hinckley's challenge to "try a little harder to be a little better." President Hatch, through your example you have made us want to be more obedient, more loving and more dedicated to building the kingdom. President Holladay, your love of the scriptures, great sense of humor and tender heart have made an imprint on our lives. President Martinez, your testimony of the Savior and love for him has strenghened our testimony. We will never forget and always be grateful for the tremendous service you have given in our behalf. We also thank your familes for the sacrifices they made while you served our great stake. Words could never properly express our profound gratitude! You are loved more than you know! The Andersons

We love you and are so blessed to know you and to have learned from you. Your love for our Heavenly Father, and for each of us personally, has really strengthened our testimonies. Sincerely, Glen and Kathy Geyer | Under your leadership with Dori typing the one-page "VAS 1-10 reports", Sunday School became a ZION training ground for people/spiritual development because each of you asked the right questions. Rather than whining about counselors being stolen, SS Presidents bragged about how quickly an inactive could be prepared for greater responsibility. THANKS! Greg & Dori Henderson

We have always appreciated your straightforward approach to any topic. Thank you! President Holladay, you hands down have been the most entertaining storyteller we have ever had the privilege of listening to. President Hatch (Dad, Poppy) We have never had a problem taking your counsel through the years so taking your counsel as a Stake President was a breeze. Your dedication to the Lord, at times at the risk of your own health, was inspiring. I am grateful for your examples of righteousness and love to every member of Vista Stake. I especially enjoyed and was blessed by attending Stake Council Meetings and Ward Conferences. Each of your messages added to my spiritual learning, growth and commitment to serve faithfully. I loved the vision you had for Vista Stake to become a Zion people. Under your leadership I watched our Stake rise to the challenge and to become united. I appreciate the support of your wives and families, and the sacrifices they made to enable each of you to serve fully. I love and appreciate each of you. However I have a special place in my heart for President Rick Holladay and Shelley Holladay. I couldn't have had a better counselor and friend than Shelley. She is filled with love and compassion for others. And I have known Rick since my days at Brigham Young University. He was my "family brother" for one great summer. Rick was impressive and fun even then. Thank you for your examples, your love and your dedication to the Lord. Jo Anne Foster

26: Beloved Presidents Hatch, Holladay, and Martinez, We are so grateful for your devoted leadership and Christ-like examples. You and your families have been inspirations to us and the entire Vista California Stake. We love you, David and Delynn Heid Family | As Percy and I discussed our memories of President Hatch, Holladay and Martinez we commented on how interesting it was that they were all men of stature, not only physically but spiritually. It made me think of the phrase "standing on the shoulders of giants" which is attributed to Sir Isaac Newton with his exact words being... "If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants." Through standing on the shoulders of these spiritual giants we have been able to see further...see a glimpse of what Zion can be if we are obedient and follow righteous leaders. How fortunate we have been to "stand on your shoulders". How grateful we are for each of you and the love and testimony each of you possess of the Savior and His atonement. Thank you for your time, example and love. | Thank you President Hatch, President Holladay, and President Martinez for your faith, dedication and diligent service despite some significant and unusual challenges. We are deeply grateful for your sacrifices and we have learned from your excellent example. Fondly, Burnell & Debbie Waite Vista 3rd Ward

27: President Martinez.......what a special person you are. You always had a great attitude even when your responsibilities became heavy. President seemed to ad-lib your talks, but they were always full of scriptures and wonderful stories. President radiated love and caring. We couldn't be around you without feeling your love. Love, The Cole's | You set the example and taught us lessons we still reflect on. Your knowledge and deep understanding of the scriptures guided us. It is as if you were part of our spiritual upbringing. You encouraged us to read the scriptures. You interviewed our children as they went on missions. You loved us. Thank you is not enough, Jonathan and Lily Berry Amy and John Hansen

With love, deep appreciation and gratitude, Lloyd and Virginia Erickson , Vista 9th Ward | Hi Pres. Hatch, Thank you so much for your many years of faithful service as our stake president. I appreciated your sense of humor and your talks to the members that were so heartfelt and inspired. I also remember your PPI's with the ward executive secretaries (I was one of them) back when you were the stake executive secretary, in which you always presented great ideas on how we could better fulfill our calling. 31: Thank you for your service to the Vista Stake and to the Clevenger/Peacock Family more especially. I remember ways you have touched our lives. President Martinez asks sincerely after my sons. You have been a blessing to us and our entire stake. Thank You, Lori and Nelson Peacock | Dear Brothers – Our family can’t thank you enough for your years of service. We love and appreciate your dedication to the gospel and the members of the Stake. 32: Words alone cannot express the love and appreciation we have for President Hatch, President Holladay and President Martinez. We as a family have been warmed by your thoughtfulness. We have learned at your feet and been taught by your examples. When a HIgh Councilor would express the love you each had for us collectively and individually, The Spirit bore witness that it was true. Your many acts of selfless service and the untold hours of toil brought our family closer to the Savior. We will always love you and appreciate the path you trod in our behalf. Please know that we will forever be grateful. May Gods choicest Blessings be yours always. David and LaNae Waldron | Dear Presidents, Our many thanks to all of you for providing wonderful leadership for our stake for many years. We are truly blessed to have had the privilege of serving and working with you. We hope and pray that the Lord continues to bless you with good health, prosperity and greater knowledge of Him. You are truly wonderful examples of the Saviour, and may He always bless you with his greatest treasures in heaven. Worlds without end Paul & Robyn Olson | Thank you for your spiritual examples and guidance. We really know that you love us. You know us personally and taught us that we can be a Zion people. Our family will try to show our love to you by continuing on that path. We love you Jim and Renee Stuckrad

33: My heart is full of gratitude and love for each of you. I so appreciate your inspiring leadership, shining examples, and Christ-like love. Although you may not even remember me, you each have had an important impact on my life. Our family moved into Vista Stake in November 2006. At that time, I wondered what our new ward would be like (it is amazing!) and worried about the new schools for my children (they are excellent!), but I gave no thought to the larger organization of the stake but now I know how blessed we are. I am so impressed with everything about Vista Stake, especially you three spiritual giants! I am the mother of a small part-member family. We try to do our best to follow our Savior and be active in our ward. At Stake Conference, Ward Conference, and in temple recommend interviews I have always been lifted by your messages and spirit. I’ve taken notes to remember your wisdom and gospel teachings. Reflecting on what you have taught me has helped me many times that I have felt discouraged. I am profoundly humbled at the health challenges you face, and I am in awe that such trials only seem to strengthen your resolve to do the Lord’s work more perfectly. Thank you for such examples! What I am most grateful for is your radiant love of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. I have truly felt your love for me (yes, little insignificant me) and thus I have felt the great love of God. You have been a great blessing in my life since we have lived here, and I will be forever grateful. I pray for youwith all my heart that you will be blessed in wondrous ways and that you will rejoice for years to come as you see the sweet and glorious fruit of your great works. With love and admiration, Karen Tran

34: What an amazing group of men you are! Your calling as a Stake Presidency began at the same time we moved to Fallbrook, and we were immediately impressed by your gospel knowledge, your spirituality, and your love for all of the “sheep” under your stewardship. Your continual efforts to guide us to become a Zion People will continue to inspire us, and we’re sure our stake will continue to move closer to that goal in the coming years. We’ve always been amazed that President Hatch would greet us by name, even though he had little opportunity to interact with us. President Holladay’s deep understanding and ability to explain gospel principles has been a source of inspiration for us. President Martinez always made us feel like long-time friends at our Temple recommend interviews. We love you all and will be always grateful for your dedication and hard work and countless hours of service. Sincerely, Shannon & Merle Jager, Fallbrook 5th Ward. | It has been such a pleasure to work with your presidency. I feel that this is one of the true blessings of my calling. President Hatch, I just love you so very much. You have taught me lessons on selfless service, kindness, responsiveness and leadership. Your love and support is evident in your service and you have touched the lives of so many individuals. I pray that the Lord will continue to bless you and your family, that we may yet see many miracles in your life. Thank you for touching my life. Love, Kathy Marler

35: My favorite memory of President Hatch was when our youngest son Keith left on his mission. He had recently returned from a military deployment in Iraq, and had planned to marry his fiance Amber. However, at the urging of his bishop, Clark Moffat, he and Amber prayed about whether he should serve a full time mission before they married. Of course, the answer they both received was that he should go on a full time mission first. He received a call to serve in the Milwaukee WI mission, and was granted a temporary separation from the Marine Corps where he was serving as a reservist. The evening that he was to meet with President Hatch, my wife, Amber and I accompanied him to the stake center. Keith and Amber were both in tears at the thought of being apart for another 2 years (following his military training and deployment), but President Hatch in his loving and understanding manner took the time to counsel them about the correctness of their decision. They left his office feeling much better than when they arrived, and his farewell was a happy one. Now, a number of years later, they are happily married with 2 sons, and making the Marine Corps their career. Mark Lowell Fallbrook 1st Ward | President Hatch,Holladay and Martinez are incredible men. They, like Christ, know who we are. When they would see us they would always say hi with our name. President Hatch came to our home ( what was left of it) when it burnt down. That was an amazing act of service taking the time to check on our welfare. Probably one of the greatest speakers we have had the privilege of listening to is Pres. Holladay, he is captivating. President Martinez wow taking on the load of the Presidency when the others were sick! What incredible men. I think my favorite meeting was when President Hatch talked about using profanity I at that point I resolved to from that point on to change my actions and I was feeling so good as I walked to my car, instead of pressing the unlock button I pressed the panic button causing the alarm to go off, so I decided to start the next day. Thank-You for all that you have done Shari and Glenn Kunz

36: Dear Presidents, Hatch, Martinez, and Holladay. Perhaps this little hog-nosed clamp seems like an inconsequential link in this picture. A lot of time, and planning went into deciding how, where, when and why that link would be strengthened. That fence is now strong. I saw you Presidency in a similar manner. A lot of time, energy prayer and thought went into your decisions. You let your various leaders, and auxiliaries perform their jobs as deemed appropriate, and when your Stake presidency leadership role was completed, many weaker links were strengthened. On my first stint as a ward liaison for MHH, I was not sure if we would have 200 or 800 show up, to do our assigned tasks. I realized my faith was weak and we had more like 800. It was a great testimony that if we planned, prayed and work we will be supported, whether it be by my voice or the voice of my servants it is the same. The members, the lord does respond! Tom Payne Vista 1 | "We will be forever grateful for the love and patience you've shown us as new members of the stake. Your guidance as we took on challenging roles was invaluable. Your examples of selfless service and endurance through difficulties will be with us forever, as we strive to follow your powerful examples." David and Debbie Allen (V9) | Love, The Kinghorn Family | I must express my deepest gratitude and thankfulness to you brethren for the great sacrifices, leadership and love that I feel from each of you. Thank you for a job well done! Love, Sister Glenda Johnson Vista 9th

37: Stake 5K Run | Kevin Chalk(Training Chair) Pat Jordan(Fox Guide) Steve Boyack(Communications) Bob Bollingbroke(Program Chair) President Holladay (Presiding) | Dear President Hatch: We have had a lot of good experiences together as you served as the Chairman of the LDS/BSA Relationships committee and I served as your executive secretary. For 8 years I experienced your growth in knowledge and support of the Scouting Program. We met frequently with BSA Council officials as we planned agendas and you directed registration progress and Friends of Scouting the 15 stakes of the San Diego, Imperial County BSA Council. You were the directing force of the successful “Little Philmont” attended by over 700 adult scouting for two days of training. The quarterly meetings of the LDS/BSA Relationships Committee meeting were always well attended by Stake Presidency members from each of the 15 stakes as well as BSA Council and District Executives anxious to get direction under your leadership. You rarely missed one of these meetings, but when it was necessary because of you health, President Holladay always represented you well. Sincerely, Dick Preece | Mormon Helping Hands 2011

38: Words cannot express enough how much we love and support you. We thank you for the time, dedication, and service you gave to the stake and our family. The stake did amazing things under your direction. My family was directly blessed by it and we thank you for it. We enjoyed all the heart felt talks and messages you shared with us. We admire you and strive to live as honorably as you do. Thank you again for everything you have done, we love you! The McDonald Family | We express our sincere love and deepest appreciation to each of you. Your devoted service and sacrifice has been an inspiration for many to follow. Your countenance has been a constant reflection of your unwavering faith and love of the Savior. Your dedication and commitment to Him has surely strengthened the saints of the Vista Stake and caused all of us to be a more faithful people of Zion. Thank you. Jim & Linda Morrison, F2

We brag of these accomplishments because your leadership, advice, and examples have been a part of who our family is and the direction we are headed together. There couldn't be a joy greater than seeing your children raising their children to love the Lord and live the gospel.May you be blessed for the service you have given and know that you made a difference. God bless you, Dale and Tammy Ginos

Our family has been served well. This picture represents two temple marriages so far for our family. Love, The Alkema Family | As a single, senior member of the Vista California Stake, I would like to sincerely thank our special Presidency, Presidents Hatch, Holladay, and Martinez for your years of service to each one of us - no matter our age group, we were all "looked after". I am sure it was an awesome responsibility to have the welfare of such a large, diversified group of church members to care for but the results were evident in the appreciation expressed by those in attendance at our special conference. Thank you again, Sis. Donna Ferguson.
