The Giver-Ariel Stanley - Page Text Content

FC: Lois Lowry Science Fiction

1: Ariel Danielle Stanley Mrs. Ashley Ellis 5th Hour 3-11-11

3: Teaser Jonas is a twelve year old boy who lives in a perfect world. When he becomes a twelve at the ceremony of Twelve's, he is to receive a special job. He became very nervous at first but then it turned out he was very excited. If i enjoyed this book I'm sure that if you read it you would enjoy it as much as I did.

5: Setting Time: December, 1 year, Future Place:A Utopian Society

7: Characters: Jonas:he was an eleven year old boy who was excited about the ceremony of twelve's, he knew he was receiving a special job. The Giver: He was like 60 something years old and he held very important memories He gave Jonas those most powerful memories that he needed. Gabriel: He was only a couple of weeks old. He was about to be in the Ceremony of One's. He learned about release and they tried to release him, but jonas came to his rescue.

9: Plot In the book The Giver, Jonas lived in a perfect world. His world was a place where there were no wars or anything. Then Jonas went into private training to receive memories. He was in a program called the Ceremony of Twelve's. Gabriel becomes a new child to their family and he learns about release. Then Gabriel was about to get released, but Jonas happened to save him from being released. In the middle of the book Jonas gets more and more happier about his assignment and so does Gabriel. Jonas receives the memory of color and that color was red. He also received the memory of sunburn.. He said that was a very painful memory and he didn't want that memory back. In the end Jonas and Gabriel were happy with their assignments and Jonas wondered would he be the next person to be the giver who held those same powerful memories that the giver held and gave to Jonas. Jonas wondered why he could not share the memories. But the giver explained to him that only him and Jonas could share the memories.

11: Evaluation I actually liked this book just because the simple fact that Jonas received a special job and that job was The Receiver of Memory. That was a very important job to him. He was confused at first but then he got very excited. I also liked when ever they brought Gabriel into the family. Then they started talking to Gabriel about release and he didn't know what it meant. His dad mentioned to him that Gabriel would have to be released if he didn't start sleeping like he was suppose to. But Jonas came to his rescue and saved him. If i could compare this book to anything i would compare it to our lifestyle. The reason i say that is because they had all the same things. Nothing was the same they had no wars or anything like that. In our world we have differences and we had all kinds of racist problems. Our world is just so crazy. I wish that our world could be just like that and then all of the racist problems would be taken care of. Then everybody would be just alike. They would have to dress alike and etc.
