S: 2012-- Engagement, Portland
Two Year Anniversary | We had a gift certificate for The Earle in Ann Arbor. That is why we decided to go there for our two year anniversary dinner. We had the French onion soup to start. Then we each had a crab cake for an appetizer. We both had steak and we split a bottle of wine. It was a super delicious meal with live jazz music in the background. They gave us a another gift card and we each got a piece of fancy chocolate from the restaurant for celebrating our day at The Earle. That was pretty awesome too. After dinner we walked to a martini bar for a few drinks. I bought Jeremy a bracelet for the occasion and he got me a Victoria's Secret gift card and a VS weekend tote bag that I've wanted for awhile. | Dinner March 10, 2012 | March 7, 2012
For my birthday my work friends and I went out to the Taproom for drinks. We played shuffle board and had lots of those drinks. We ended up having a great crazy time. The waitress brought me a drink made with Bacardi Dragon Berry rum and it was fantastic! After we closed the bar we went back to our house and danced. | B i r t h d a y | D r i n k s | March 14, 2012
Jason and Jenna | <- Detroit hotels like their small amenities!!
Jason Springston is one of Jeremy's oldest friends. He lives in Ohio, but he came into town with his girlfriend, Jenna, for a weekend and her birthday. We met up with them at the MGM Grand for some dinner and gambling. We ate at the Bourbon Steak restaurant. It was my first time trying oysters and Jeremy and I split a very expensive, but very tasty steak. We got a cheese platter for dessert. It was a very hefty tab, but I would have to say it was the best meal I've ever had. After dinner we played Blackjack and walked around MGM for a bit. They were staying at the Greektown and we had a few too many drinks..... so we decided to stay at the hotel for the night too. It was a spontaneous evening, but it was a fantastic time!! | We bought a toothbrush and toothpaste from the front desk. It cost a buck and it was the smallest toothpaste tube I've ever seen. | The view of the Detroit Skyline from our hotel room
 Bruin Lake Pinkney, MI
Sara invited me out fishing with her and Travis. Lee was home and he came too. We didn't really catch much and it was too cold to go swimming, but we had a good time. We had a swan come right up to the boat for chili cheese Fritos. We went to a bar and watched the Redwings play in the the playoffs after we pulled the boat out.
Golf is FUN | Grant came and stayed with us for two days over his spring break. We mostly watched TV, but I took him golfing and we had a great time.
Sara and I have decided that we are not going to let our lives live us. We have decided that we are going to live our lives. We went golfing because she had never been before and I've only been a handful of times. We had a such a great time.
Sara called me and we decided we were going to have an adventure. I drove up to Lansing and we went to pick Katrina up from her work. We took her to lunch at Bagger Dave's and then we went for a walk down the tracks by Katrina's house. We went into a closed off bridge and I took some photos. It is always a good day when I'm with my friends.
Conway Time Jeremy had a class in Ann Arbor and it included the managers. They decided they wanted to go to a Tigers game. Jeremy invited me to go with them and of course I said I would love to go. We went a bar before hand for a few drinks and then went to the game.
In keeping with trying to live our lives, Sara arranged for us girls to have a girls night. We went to ZapZone and had a great time playing laser tag. Then we went to Andrea's house and caught up for a few hours. | Ladies Night Out | Ladies Night Out
We spent Mother's Day in Ohio but, we wanted to make sure that we did something for my mom too. We decided to take her to dinner and she picked Outback Steakhouse. We enjoyed dinner and then helped her buy her silhouette machine and a few other things from Amazon. | May 14, 2012
Kelli won tickets to a Tigers game from her work and she invited me to come with her. The Tigers were playing the Pirates and Jason Verlander was pitching. He came SO close to a no hitter. It was a very exciting game to be at.
Kelli made us dinner and then we went to Powell's bar for drinks and karaoke. | May 19, 2012
Jeremy's birthday was on a Tuesday. I had it off of work and he took it off too. We decided to go to the Toledo zoo for the day. I really wanted to see the elephants and he really wanted to see the gorillas. After we got back from Toledo we went to Chili's for dinner. It was a fun and fantastic day with Jeremy! | May 22, 2012
Botanical Gardens Ann Arbor, MI | May 23, 2012 Our Engagement
Jeremy took me to the Botanical Gardens on Wednesday after the zoo. We walked around the children's garden, the greenhouse and we walked along the creek. We saw a few butterflies and a small waterfall. We saw a small deck with a bench from our side of the creek and it took us a few minutes to find it but when we did find it Jeremy took my camera from me and got down on one knee and he asked me to marry him. I don't remember exactly what I said, but it was along the lines of "of course yes". The ring he designed is perfect and it sparkled so well when he opened the box that I couldn't believe it was real.
Ichiban Jay and Jen took us out to dinner at Ichiban to celebrate our engagement. We got a flaming volcano to drink, it was very strong, but it got us good and buzzed up. Everything was delicious! Even the rice was amazing with their sauce. I got steak and salmon and I think it was one of the best meals I've ever had.
Engagement stuff Apparently getting engaged is a big deal and people that love us want to celebrate too. :) Not only did we get dinner from Jay and Jen, but Joy took me out for drinks at the Taproom too.

Our Trip to Portland | Day 1
September 10, 2012. Travel day. I was scheduled to work until 3pm but, I was able to get out around 2:30p. I took the car home at 12:00p and so Jeremy had to come pick me up. We were afraid that if I drove home after I was done with work and then we went to Jay and Jen's house, we would be running too late. We went straight to their house and Jays dad drove us to the airport. Jen and I were on US Airways and the boys were on Delta. We left at 5:15 but they had to wait until 7:40. We went to North Carolina first and then had a five and a half hour flight to Portland. The boys were direct so they left after us and were here before us, but we made it with no set backs. Jen and I went to Applebee's e before our first flight I got guac and chips. Jen got salmon. then when we had a long flight so we ordered burritos from a Mexican Cantina Grill. We had to take the food onto the second plane because we only had an hour layover, but we made it and settled in for a very long flight. We landed local time 10:10p that is 1:10a our time but then we had to drive to the hotel. We are staying at the Holiday's inn Express here in Portland. We checked in and Jeremy and I took showers and unpacked for the week. We went to bed local time 12:30a.
September 11, 2012 Jeremy and Jay had to be at Conway at 7:30am this morning. Since 6:30a here feels like 9:30a at home, I woke up and he and I went down to breakfast. The hotel has a continental breakfast. I had biscuits and gravy, eggs, bacon and danish. Apparently “continental” means hot now. Jay and Jen came down after a few minutes and ate with us. The boys left for work and Jen went to work out. I took a nap. I am on vacation. I woke up around 10:00a and Jen and I went for a walk. We tried to go to 23rd Ave unsuccessfully. We ended up going to 23rd plaza. oops. 23rd st is the shopping district. I bought a coffee at a coffee place called Dragonfly and we took the trolley downtown and we went to Powell's books. Its a staple here. It is by far the biggest bookstore I have ever seen. It took up a whole city block. Jen bought “Al Capone Cleans My Shirts” a book she's been wanting to read. We went to a pub for lunch called “The Blitz”. I had a beer and a burger. Jen had wine and a salad. We took the trolley back to the hotel and now I'm writing waiting for the boys to get back. I'm watching some TV and may do some research for tomorrow. The boys got to the hotel around 6 and we all went to dinner at a brewery called The Burnside brewery. We got a sticker with the logo for the scrapbook. Jeremy and I split a Spicy Cuban Sandwich and mac and cheese it was so delicious. We split two pitchers of beer and then went grocery shopping at Fred Meyers. We went back to the hotel and watched the change up in our room and had more drinks. | Day 2
When Jen and I went walking we found a fire hydrant that a tree had grown around
September 12, 2012, The boys had to work today so Jen and I took a city bus (the wrong direction) so we took an unexpected tour of some of Portland's industrial district, downtown and we are now waiting on the hop on hop off bus tour to see some of Portland's sites. I've got a Starbucks latte in one hand and my camera in the other. It will be a fun day. | Fun fact: The Pearl district is named that because the people who visited said it was like an oyster and occasionally you find a pearl and it stuck | 9 | 3 | Day 3
We stopped and had lunch at a café on the water called Little River Café. Seriously Portland has the best food ever! We ordered Tomato Gorgonzola soup and a baked potato. It was so good. They boys got out of work early and we were still on the tour. They had to come pick us up downtown because we were all supposed to be at dinner with all the managers. We met up with Angie(Jeremy's boss), Yasir and Chuck as well as others, at a roof top restaurant called On Deck. We had just ate because we weren't expecting the boys to be done until 7ish. So Jen and I just had some drinks, but the managers ate dinner. We hung out for a few hours and after we left there we went to a brew pub close to the hotel and the Conway office. It's called the Lucky Labrador. Jen and I ate sandwiches and we all drank some beer. After we were done drinking we came back to the hotel and we watched Family Feud and talked. | Fun Fact: This is the county's smallest city park. The city of Portland pays to keep this park up to claim that title. | F | Fun fact: These drinking fountains are all around the city. A man named Benson donated them to the city. He was a timber man and he wanted his workers to have access to clean drinking water so they would not go to the brewery's on lunch. I believe there are 51 around the city. They are affectionately nicknamed the Benson Bubblers. | If you look close you can see Mt. Hood in the distance.
September 13, 2012, I woke up early this morning and went down to breakfast. I watched some tv and called Jen around 10 to see if she wanted to go shopping. She came over and we watched tv for a bit. I fell asleep and woke up around 12p. I called Jen and we took the bus up 23rd Ave for some shopping. We ate Chinese food for lunch and went into a few toy stores. We stopped at a fudge shop to get ice cream and then we stopped at Starbucks so I could get a coffee. They took a long time to get my drink so they gave me a free drink coupon, pretty awesome! Jen and I decided that we should go to the Pittock Mansion to kill sometime before the boys got out of work. We took a cab from the hotel up the mountain. Jen paid for the cab up and it was around $13. It was $8.50 to get inside the house. We read about the Pittock family and their huge house. The views from the top of grounds were amazing!! You can see pretty much all of Portland. We bought cards from the gift ship at the mansion and then called a cab to bring us back to the hotel. We are here waiting for the boys and I'm watching The Breakfast Club and drinking some wine. The boys got to the hotel room around 5:30p and I had a few drinks while we waited for them. We met up with Yasir at the Matador just before happy hour ended at six. Jeremy and I order Calamari, nachos and fish tacos off their happy hour menu. After dinner we went to McMenamins for a drink, but I was so full that I couldn't finish mine. After drinks we went back to the hotel to go swimming and we played cards in our room. Jay and I beat Jeremy and Jen at euchre. | Day 4
This estate was the home of Oregon Trail pioneers Henry and Georgiana Pittock. Best known as the owner of The Oregonian, Henry remained at the paper's helm from 1860 until his death in 1919. His wide-ranging investments made him very wealthy. A vigorous man, he began planning this mansion in 1909, at the age of 73. It was completed in 1914, and three generations of Pittocks occupied the home until 1958. After members of the Pittock family moved out, the mansion fell into disrepair. It was saved from demolition when the citizens of Portland raised the $225,000 purchase price. Opened to the public in 1965 by Portland Parks & Recreation, Pittock Mansion operates with the generous support of Pittock Mansion Society
Day 5 | The Downtown Courtyard | The Japanese Garden
September 14, 2012 We woke up and went to breakfast this morning and then we packed up our room because we are transferring to a hotel downtown. We are using my discount at the Courtyard downtown. We packed up and checked out around 12p and drove over to the Courtyard. We were able to check into one of our rooms so that our food wouldn't spoil. Then we drove up to the Japanese garden and walked through there. Now we are waiting at the Washington Park train station for our train to the zoo. We had a limited time at the zoo but we moved pretty quick. We got to see giraffe's, tiger's, hippo's, otter's. There was more too. We ate hot dogs at the zoo for lunch before we got going. We caught the last train from the zoo back to Washington Park at 4:00p and headed back to the hotel. We checked Jay and Jen into their room so we could get ready for dinner with Chuck (the Portland Jay) and his wife Jackie. We went to their house and they took us to an Italian restaurant called Vino's. Again the food was delicious. I got Penne Ale Vodka. It was chicken sausage in a very rich tomato sauce. After dinner we went to Chuck and Jackie's house for drinks we hung out for awhile. Then headed back to our hotel and passed out pretty quick. | Portland zoo
September 15, 2012, We are going to the coast today. We woke up around 10am and got ready for the day. I had some fruit for breakfast and then we all went to VooDoo Doughnuts That was insane. We were told that we needed to try the Old Dirty Bastard (we got 2, one for each couple), it is a peanut butter and Oreo doughnut. We tried a custard filled, a Captain Crunch, a Dirt(Oreo), and their famous Maple Bacon. We got coffees and it was $17.50. Now we are on our way to Cannon Beach.-- We went to Seaside Beach first and saw the shore and ate lunch at a place that Chuck recommended for dinner called Norma's. They had excellent clam chowder. Jeremy and I shared a fish n chips with Tuna, Salmon, Halibut and Cod. It was delicious. After lunch we went and did a little shopping around Seaside. Then we got in the car and we went to Cannon Beach. It is just down the way from Seaside. We walked down the beach to the “Haystock Rock”. It's a random rock on the edge of the beach and it's huge. Then we walked back through town and Jay and Jen stopped for ice cream and Jeremy and I went to a brewery called Bills Tavern & Brewery for beer. I tried three. Now we are in the car headed back to the hotel.-- We got back kind of late and so we couldn't get dinner at the food carts but we were all pretty pooped so we went to our room and ordered pizza. We played a few rounds of Euchre, but again we were pretty pooped so we didn't play a whole game.
 Day 6
September 16, 2012, We packed up our room and called the front desk to have our car pulled up. Jeremy and I went down to Starbucks to get my free coffee from the other day and I bought Jeremy one. We got our car packed and all of us were ready to go to the waterfalls. We were trying to get to the waterfalls, but we ended going to an observatory at the top of the gorge. It had gorgeous views from all directions. We went to the big waterfall and had brunch at the waterfall restaurant. That was awesome too, it had eggs Benedict, French toast, shrimp, clam and so much more. Then we went to walk up the mountain. The waterfalls were gorgeous. After the big one we went to the smaller falls and we got some great photos. Then we had to get to the airport and we got there around 3:40ish and our flight was at 6:00pm. The boys dropped us off and they returned the car and then came and found us at our gate. We are on our plane now and we will not be home until 6am tomorrow morning. UGH!!-- The flight was tough but I was able to get an hour of sleep or so. The boys flight got in just after ours and Jay's dad picked us all up. We got to our house just after 8:30 and I took a shower and went straight bed.-- This trip was amazing! | Day 7
