This book is dedicated to Javier because he likes shoes and would like this book.

I smell the new shoe smell flowing through me. Then I notice I’m on a ride down a conveyor belt. Then it starts to slow down. I hear endless chatter from workers talking. they're talking about what they have for lunch today and whose is the best. Also they are singing a song is on the radio, it just happens to be my favorite, “Smile” by Uncle Kracker. The loud blast from the stereo harms my ears and I attempt to hum along. One guy state, “I’m having ham and bread.” The other guy exclaims,” Well I’m having chicken noodle soup. I suddenly taste the smell of the coffee hovering around the room. All of the sudden it gets dark. I am enclosed by brownish walls and little white paper. Afterward I hear a big slam. Large metallic doors close behind me. All of a sudden I hear a loud grumble noise coming from the steel machine. I quickly doze off after hearing the hum of the engine.

The next day, I wake up to the strong sunlight shining through the box. “BEEPPP BEEPP, BEEP” The sound of the engine roars and I quickly become aware of my surroundings. Brown walls with detailed inscriptions are all around me. Suddenly I get dropped. I look out the box, there is a building a billion feet tall. There an earthquake towering the box. Then I get taken out and put on a shelf. A few hours later a little boy comes to try me on. I guess he didn't like the way I feel. Then a boy tries me on and I get put into a shoe box. Then I see a red laser scan me. I guess I got bought. Finally my dream has come true. I got to a gigantic lime house; I get in the chestnut colored door. Then the boy picks up the box and run me up the stairs into his closet.

The next morning, I am walking to school. I hop on the bus to save time. After I arrive at a big building. I walk in and there is a bunch of kids running to different classes. Then after I while I get used to being in the crowded hallways until I walk in a room full of little kids playing soccer. I get scared of the big ball. It is coming toward me really fast. I try to kick it, I miss at first. Then I made a goal. Wow I’m happy. The whole team cheers. It feels great to do something good for my owner’s teammates. When I get back to the big green house, he takes me off at the front door. Then I hear a big growl, there is a big animal looking at me. Then a big slober gets all over me. He’s eating me! “Bad dog!” yells a strange woman. I later discover that the woman yelling is the boy’s mother. (The little boy’s mom yelled at the dog.) He continues to eat me and will not stop even while she was yelling. The mom finally saves me from getting eaten by the dog. She has to tear me out of his mouth. I hope they put me somewhere else next time. Finally she put me safely in Bob’s closet. The next day as we are walking to the bus I stepped in this sticky goo. It was gum, the little boy tries to scrape it off, but it keeps sticking. I thought he was going to throw me away because he couldn’t get the gum off.

When the little boy gets home, he runs up to his mom. “Mom, I got gum stuck on my shoe!” he complained. She replied, “Take off your shoe. I’ll get it off for you.” So she takes me and gave me a bath. It feels so good to be cleaned. It took a while, but the gum came off, and I was left to dry. The next morning after I was dry Bob put me on and he darted out of the house. I guess this was his morning routine. The early morning light was so peaceful; I feel the dew on my head. That was a really bad day for me. First the dog and then the gum. I was afraid of getting thrown away, but Bob liked me as his shoes so much that he kept me.
