S: The Aupperle Years 2008-2012

FC: The Aupperle Years OCC Youth group memories 2008-2012

OCC Youth Group @ 6:01 Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and faith in God. Hebrews 6:1

Summer 2008: Jeff & Rachel took over as youth leaders at OCC. | Youth group became radically different with our two new leaders, and no one knew what to expect. | Little did we know that God had surprises in store for everyone over the next four years.

The camping trip, where pranks became tradition and new friendships were created. | July 2008

3DYC Dessert Auction Fundraiser (Somehow cheesecake always seemed to be the bestseller.)

 3 D Y C 2008

The first Amazing Romeo Race was...experimental. Of course the cheaters couldn't be stopped from cheating, but Jeffy didn't let them win. (Not saying that Adam, Peter, and Rachel cheated. hehe.) Christmas 2008

The year 2009 was a big one for the OCC youth group. It was in 2008 that Jeffy created the Amazing Romeo Race, which became a yearly tradition (and sometimes more than once a year). In July, the youth traveled to Muskegon, MI for their first camp-out on Lake Michigan. Summers in the youth group were a time of joy, relaxation, and most of all, lots and lots of fun. It was a fantastic year of fellowship and growth, and many new students joined our church and youth group. We continued kicking off the summer at the Kauzlarich house; the youth band was formed; we took our second trip to Cedar Point; and later in the year went to Pizza Pizza Laugha Laugha for the first time; had another 3DYC dinner, took another (bigger) trip to Bethel College, AND spent six hours in cramped church vans on our way to Kentucky to visit the Creation Museum.

P.J. Hoffmaster State Park July 2009 | Friends, summertime, and the beach at Lake Michigan. What could possibly be better?

Before the fun ended at the Hoffmaster, Adam got a little bit tied up. | Adam wasn't so tough anymore after the guys tied him to a tree.

Eventually (with a little help from Josh K., he struggled his way free and attempted to get revenge. | Josh felt bad for him. | Adam tried to attack Peter, but the other guys came to Peter's rescue.

The rest of the summer was filled with hang outs, bonfires, grad parties, and a trip to Cedar Point in August before school started again. | June 2009

Josh & Adam bonding. | Being mischievous... | Spending time together before school started. | Can you spot Chris? | The End of Summer 2009

Road Trip to the Creation Museum December 2009 | Though it was fun to be in a van with all our closest friends for SIX hours, we got a little tired of truth or dare (especially because all the dares were pretty lame and consisted mostly of prank-calling and seeing how close the guys were willing to get (see picture of Chris and Jake).

 Creation | Museum | Memories

In 2009 we took our second trip to Bethel College, and this time a big group of girls stayed at Laura's house. They noticed a funny picture hanging on the wall in which all of Laura's roommates were making hilarious poses. Laura explained that the camera had gone off when none of them were ready, and it was so funny they ended up framing it on the wall. Of course the OCC girls had to attempt something similar. | Bethel College

Youth Band | Despite early Saturday morning practices, the youth band came together to play worship for the church. Jeff invested countless hours into us beyond Sunday night youth meetings.

December 2009 brought with it another Amazing Romeo Race followed by a Christmas party at the church. Festivities included a white elephant gift exchange and the ever-popular girls vs. boys Reindeer Games. When the youth group wasn't competing to finish the race the fastest, we were pretty much goofing around like usual, except this time Rachel put on a photo shoot.

...to dress like an elf in an ugly Christmas sweater. | ...

3DYC December 28-29, 2009 Rachel's sister, Natalie cut wigs into cute styles for the girls to take on the trip. Of course the boys wanted in on it too...

3DYC: EPIC CONFERENCE | 3DYC had a way of bringing everyone together, through tears or laughter, and sometimes both.

 Highlights

2010 | The year 2010 continued to bring new events and new people. In February, the annual Super-Bowl Party was held, although not very much Super-Bowl watching happened.

Jeff had everybody play that one game...The one where everybody had to walk in circles...You know the one.

Oh, those Sunday Nights. | One summer evening, Jeff taught the youth a lesson on David & Goliath. To give us an idea of how tall Goliath was, he asked Josh Super to put Griffin on his shoulders. | Adam...being Adam.

Back when youth group was held in the great room the girls and guys would fight for the couches, and sometimes pull the mattress out... | David found a bunny in the parking lot and named it Soap.

Camping 2010 Sleeper State Park | Everybody loves Jeffy!

 Lake Huron

One of the fun things about Sleeper State Park was the nearby Putt Putt Golf.

 VBS Studio Go

 Cedar Point August 2010

 Baby Jaelynn Rose

Moments of Fall 2010 | An appreciation candy card for Jeff & Rachel (October). | Reid liked to imitate the older boys, especially if it meant skateboarding. He was pretty good at it!

David goofed around with Miquela's hat before a trip to Shelby Lanes one day. | Miquela & Sam at youth group. | Adam's first time holding baby Jaelynn at Woodside Bible Church where the youth group watched Tim Hawkins perform a comedy routine (November).

Amazing Romeo Race 2010 | December rolled around again and it was that time of year...Time to dress like elves (or in ugly sweaters) and hit Romeo's finest--Tim Horton's (for donuts, of course), K-Mart, the Veterinarian's office (to get a picture with a dog), Sheena's (for bananas and everything else an elf would eat like candy corn and syrup), and if you were feeling really adventurous, all the way to Lakeside for a picture with Santa! | "I'm in a store and I'm singing!"

2011 At 3DYC 2009, it was announced the conference would be held every other year from then on. So, instead of having 3DYC in 2010, Jeff planned for the group to go to Springhill Camp in February 2011.

Springhill 2011 | Practicing for Broomball. | Game time!

May 2011 brought forth a new event for the youth group. Mr. & Mrs. Rinke invited the group to their cabin along Lake Huron to spend the weekend together while also learning a few very important lessons for young people. DKSS: Dating, Kissing, Sex, and Stuff, which was commonly referred to as "Sex Camp," took place over Memorial Day weekend. After watching videos and splitting up in groups to talk about anything they wanted, the youth would get a break from the heavy stuff. They spent time on the beach together, and it was almost like another camping trip! On the last day of the weekend, the parents were invited up to the cabin for a cook-out and the youth shared letters they'd written with their parents.

Looking Back at DKSS May 28-30, 2011

Highlights Summer 2011: Torrential downpour on the camping trip Jeff & Rachel's tent collapsed The 2011 Moat 30 Hour Famine VBS: Main Street Cedar Point trip

P.J. Hoffmaster State Park June 2011

The Wright Brothers | Nate | Zack | Ben

 The Moat of '11

 LAKE MICHIGAN

After the camp-out there was an awesome party at the Rinke's house!

The summer was drawing to a close, college students were about to go off to school, but before that happened, we used the nice weather to spend time outside with each other. The most popular outside game continued to be Last Man Standing, and volunteering with VBS was always a must. The year would end with another Amazing Romeo Race, of course.

 3DYC 2011 | The Girls

 Replica Conference | The Guys

On March 11, 2012, Jeff announced that the Aupperle family would be moving to Indiana, where he would begin studying at Taylor University. Thus began a series of "lasts" in the youth group with our wonderful leaders. In June, the second annual 30-Hour Famine finished raising the needed funds for a water well to be built somewhere in the world. The well would be established in the OCC Youth Group's name.
