FC: The Last Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Grace Bobber
I had been dreading this night. It was the night of my last show, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. I couldn't believe I was saying goodbye...
One Month Earlier It was the night before tech rehearsals....
What a surprise I was in for! The next day, my cast and I went to the John Wehr Theater, where I saw the most unique stage. It included movable stairs and a rising platform! I couldn't believe I'd be performing on this stage so soon.
One week later was opening night. Although my knees were buckling and my palms were damp, the first show was a great success... and the next twenty-one shows to follow would also be great. | Every emotion ran through me. | the fear of missing a cue | the excitement for applause | the hopefulness that no one would drop a line | the regret of not getting a lead role
It was the twenty-third show I feared. I had met so many talented people, soon to be friends, and working with these directors was the best experience I could ask for. How could I say goodbye?
One way to say goodbye was to give all I had left in that last show. That would show the directors how grateful I was for the opportunity and that they had chosen the right person for the job.
Saying goodbye to my friends would be much more challenging, though.
After the last show, the rest of the chorus members and I were hanging up our costumes. If you were to stand outside the door of our room, all you would hear is a sob every now and then.
Rain was falling quickly when my friends and I walked out of the theater. The murky sky made us even more melancholy.
I met some pretty amazing people during this experience, and because of that, I know I will remember this show and all of its memories for the rest of my life. My friends and I all said goodbye one more time, and then we realized...
Our last show really was the best Christmas pageant ever.
